We went and saw Mirrormask on Saturday. I have to say that I quite liked it. In fact, I would like to see it again. It is an amazing feat that they made such a visually stunning film for $4 million. I am glad to hear that someone who typically doesn't like Dave McKean and Neil Gaiman likes the movie. It makes me feel less apprehensive about seeing it.

It looks like one of those things that could be really good or really suck.

Gaiman sometimes likes to posture too much. I think it comes from working in the comic book genre.

Um, you misunderstood me, I think. I am not someone that typically doesn't like McKean and Gaiman. In fact, I like them both a lot. I remember going to the record store to buy a Frontline Assembly album a number of years ago (Implode) and being delighted to discover that McKean had done the cover and liner art. My wife and I have a rather extensive collection of Gaiman's works (she is a bigger fan than I), and just recently went to see him do a reading from his new book 'Anansi Boys'.

The movie struck me as being far more Mckean than Gaiman. Visually, it is stunning. The only thing that I didn't really care for was that the beginning of the film seemed to go just a little longer than it needed to. It is definitely worth seeing in any case, just for the beauty of it alone.
