Moon Cycle 74: 7/13 - 7/19

❖ MOON CYCLE 74 ❂ 07/13/11 - 07/19/11

Phase: One-fourth waning. Skies are starting to get darker due to the lack of moonlight.

Weather: There's only one word which could define this week's weather: sporadic. One day it will be sweltering hot, and the next will be freezing cold. Yes, that's right. Freezing cold. The only constant seems to be the nightly temperatures which are just simply jacket. The sudden changes in temperature could throw a character's body into a loop, so dress appropriately and stay healthy! There will be some snowflakes during the blue temperature days, but they don't really stick and melt by the next morning.

Effects: The dreams are matching the weather-they're sporadic as well, but in a different way. Basically, characters will have a higher chance of having crack dreams. By which we mean the dreams may seem to be drug induced and will make no sense whatsoever. You guys are pretty much free to write up whatever comes to mind. Is your serious character suddenly dreaming himself as a ballerina dancing in space dressed as a sunflower with robot antennae? Great! Maybe your comical character dreams herself as partying it up at some dino disco. Seriously, have fun with these. They can make sense or no sense at all. This is of course optional, so it's still very possible for characters to have "normal" dreams or whatever you may have already planned for them. All dreams of this kind will emit a yellow light.

Notes:
  • Repair Progress. Here's the weekly progress report:
    • Espoir is completely repaired! Cottage owners may discover that their furnishings and appliances have been completely replaced and even upgraded a bit. They still retain their old, rustic cozy cottage feel, just with a few upgrades.

    • Residential District (1) is 98% complete! All houses and apartments have been cleaned up and renovated. Some businesses are still being restocked and fixed, but most should be completely repaired and operational by the end of the week.

    • Shopping District (2) is 80% complete! While almost all buildings have been repaired, there are still a few smaller shops and restaurants that need a bit more time as most of the focus had been on the bigger and popular shopping centers. Also stock will be limited all around, but several stores will have reopened for business.

    • Business & Arts District (3) is 85% complete! Huh, looks like those bigwig corporations really pulled some strings to get their offices and apartments done first. Like the Shopping District, mostly everything is repaired, but there are still a few construction sites around as buildings are being refitted and some redesigned. It was if they were trying to make the place look even more modern than it already was.

    • Industrial District (4) is 35% complete! Ouch, we can see why the others got back on their feet so quickly. Looks like the Industrial District drew the short end of the stick here. Many warehouses and factories were completely ruined and only the important ones have been revived. The further in you go, the dirtier, grittier, and dangerous it gets. Ever wondered where the slums were in Somarium? This would be your best shot. Nestled right between the Business and Government District, too. Gangs, thieves, and desperate homeless refugees have gathered here, and there seems to be a strange air of "darkness" that covers the majority of the inner district, especially out toward the desert. The areas closest to the district boundaries seem fairly normal, particularly near the village. Those are the safe zones. It's the deeper, inner areas of the district you'll have to watch your back. The NPCs here seem to be acting a stranger than normal, too.

    • Government District (5) is 80% complete! Like the other districts, most of the important buildings and the residential areas have been completely repaired and renovated with only the smaller and lesser important areas left being rebuilt.

    • Businesses in general will be mostly working on getting their stocks back up. Food stores and medical supplies were the first to be restocked, so there should be plenty to go around. Other necessary supplies will be plenty, though towards the end of the week they may be a little short.
Sorry for the vague details, but characters should be able to get around live relatively normally. Just watch out for that Industrial District!

  • So how did they repair everything so fast... Super special awesome NPC ninjutsu. Seriously, though, there is an actual secret reason that will be revealed within the week, so keep a look out for that.

  • Nycteren. For those who are not familiar with them, refer to this post. These monsters are still prowling around, but they're even worse now. Once again, the only come out at night, but it looks like they have a few favorite haunts. The big one is the inner areas of the Industrial District. Yeah that place is just nothing be trouble, let me tell you. Those who live around the outside of the district should be relatively safe, but they may still hear some creepy skittering around. They are also prone to lurk around the edges of the barrier, slinking in and out of the barrier as if it were nothing. That can't be good. Wasn't the barrier supposed to keep those kinds of monsters out? A couple will also lurk around the other districts and the village, but those extra NPCs that came in last week are quick to pounce on them. But something seems weird...

  • Strange NPC behavior. We already mentioned the NPCs in the Industrial District acting weird, but have some more. Last cycle some rather stringent and almost military-esque type NPCs arrived into Somarium. When, where, and how is still a mystery, but they will be become more active in the next few days. This time, however, they're also acting really weird...and downright rude, too.
    • Sudden interrogation. Some may grab your character and start grilling them right there on the spot with random questions about their home world and what they've been dreaming lately (yes, dreaming. not doing-dreaming). Some may ask if anyone has tried to tamper with the computer. If asked they won't specify. These questions will be very personal and seem very much like an interrogation, so feel free to make up any general/vague standard questions.

Feel free to punch or attack them in retaliation, or simply walk away. Be warned, though, if your character does physically react, the NPC's backup might show up. However, no character will be taken away-the local NPCs will have none of that. In fact the older, more familiar NPCs will do whatever they can to help the characters out if they get in a bind. It's pretty clear they don't like the newer NPCs and only seem to tolerate them since they're helping to rebuild everything.

    • Carrying away Nycteren. Instead of destroying the Nycteren like before, some are actually seen to be taking them somewhere. Where is the mystery. They just load it up in a black van and drive off. Attempts to follow will be futile as they will always somehow elude their pursuers. If anyone happens to plant a tracking device, it will follow up to a point before glitching out. The farthest any type of tracking system-be it by person or gadget-will be to the entrance to the Industrial District. After that, they just disappear. Clearly something fishy is going on in there.
