This is going up a day early, but for good reason!
❖ MOON CYCLE 81 ❂ 09/05/11 - 09/12/11
Phase: One-half waning.
Weather: Temperatures remain a bit brisk and cool, but nothing a light jacket won't fix. Some may notice the leaves starting to change color and being to fall, as well. But it's still early in the season, so it will be some time before the leaves fall. Hopefully there won't be another "leaf storm" like last year.

Effects: No general themes this time around, however, characters may notice that the dream effects may be a lot more realistic both physically and emotionally. For instance, if a character dreams of being injured, both the dreamer and viewer may experience some physical pain. This is the same as emotionally driven dreams. The viewer may feel more in tune with the dreamers emotions, and the dreamer may wake up feeling more emotionally taxed than usual. This is of course optional on both ends. Some may not be affected at all.
Notes: It's training time! This month will focus on every aspect of being a Dreamwalker. Below are the notes for the first official Dreamwalker explanation and training. Also we have some announcements regarding the Crack Community and a poll about the IRC Chat.
- Brief recap. Just a brief reminder that a Dreamwalker is basically one who can enter another person's dreams and be affected by that dreamer's environment. They are granted additional abilities that can only be used in the dream setting. We now have an informational post detailing everything about the Dreamwalker for you. It can be found here. This is including things that will be touched on in the feature, so please refer to these OOC posts for now to know what your characters can do at this stage of the game. If you have already have a few questions about Dreamwalkers in general, feel free to ask now. We'll be further detailing things in the future, but we want to give you guys at least a basic idea of what can be done so you can think about future possibilities. That page will continue to flesh out as time goes on, so suggestions are always welcome.
- Terminology. Here are a few terms that both players and characters will need to know!
- Dreamwalker. The metaphysical form that a character takes to enter dreams. This can only happen when a character is asleep. Note: Though characters are themselves dreamwalkers, they have the ability to create another dreamwalker form of themselves. However, this form is only limited to dream settings and cannot move around in the real world.
- Dreamwalking. The act of entering and interacting within someone's dreams.
- Dreamscape. A large dream setting. Dreamscapes are usually huge and expansive. They require a large amount of dream energy to be created, so only a powerful dreamer or a specially designed machine can create dreamscapes.
- Dreamfield. A small, localized dream setting. Dreamfields are much smaller than dreamscapes, and are used to refer a specific person's dream. They require less dream energy and are very limited in comparison to dreamscapes.
- Dream sickness. Basically a side effect of using too much dream energy. Characters may feel weak, dizzy, and generally ill. Think of it like a nasty hangover. There are special medications, but a few days of rest will also cure it.
As a little note, the easiest way to remember the difference between a "dreamscape" and "dreamfield" is that a "dreamscape" will always be mod created. "Dreamfields" are specifically used for character dreams.
- Message. Everyone will receive the following text message within the next 24 hours:
FROM: AISLING
SUBJECT: RE: DREAMWALKER TRAINING
Hi every1!!!! So like Ryan told me I had 2 help u out with ur dreamwalking training. It's gonna be ttly cool! We have the whole facility set up and it has some new awesome things set up.
So meet me at the floating mountain at around 9AM on Wed, k?? I'll lead you all 2 it! It is sooooo super cool, trust me. It's at the Coliseum but I'll have arrows pointing the way so you won't get lost!!
We're gonna have SO SO SO MUCH FUN!! I am so excite OMG!
c u soon!
Aisling ♥
(Yes. The message says "I am so excite". That is not a typo on our part.) And then immediately after that one, characters will receive a second message:
FROM: RYAN TASSIT
SUBJECT: RE: DREAMWALKER TRAINING
If you got a message from Aisling........I'm sorry. Look, despite how she sounds, she's one of our best dreamwalker trainers in the region. If you're wondering why you have to have this training, it's because you guys are dreamwalkers and like it or not, you're going to have to use these abilities soon.
Sylvani plans on showing you the truth at the end of the month, and in order to do that you need to know what you can do. For some reason, she doesn't want me to just flat out tell you, but I can say this much. There's a lot going on outside of Somarium that you don't know about--stuff that's been going on for decades. There's a reason why we came in with MILITARY trucks and why there have been noctaere attacks, you know. It's not rocket science to figure it out, but you'll get the full explanation from Sylvani herself.
No one's forcing you into this, but if you're at least interested in what you can do as a Dreamwalker, just reply to this message with a "Y" or "N" so I can have a list of how many people are coming.
Another thing, even if you're not interested in fighting, you should probably get in on this for your own benefit. You don't want to be caught unable to do anything if someone else is able to invade your own dream. Plus, there's more to dreamwalking than fighting.
This won't be the only training session, so if you miss out, don't sweat. It's at the Coliseum so just go there whenever you want.
Good luck.

P.S.
Dream energy levels look a little unstable these days, so watch what you dream.
- Training? As indicated by the two messages, characters are having a chance to figure out how to use these dreamwalking abilities. It will be up at the Coliseum on the floating mountain. They just took one of the spare rooms and upgraded it. Characters will be able to meet the new NPC, Aisling, and will be taken to the facility to undergo the basic steps to becoming a dreamwalker. This is essentially what characters will learn:
- Creating a dreamfield. Characters will learn how to form dreamfields and how to be consciously aware within their own dream so as to control its setting. Very basic.
- Creating the dreamwalker form. This is set in a premade dreamscape that the NPC facility members will create. Characters will focus on their dream energy to basically create a metaphysical copy of themselves, the dreamwalker. That dream self will be automatically placed into the dreamscape. The main goal of this exercise is to just form their dreamwalker form, not entering dreams. Once inside the dreamscape, they will then learn how to move around and interact with the setting. Very basic.
- Entering dreams. Once a character has learned how to become and control their dreamwalker form, they will be attempting to enter a premade dreamscape. Unlike the previous exercise, they will have to focus to enter the dream rather than be automatically pulled into it. This requires quite a bit of concentration, effort, and dream energy. A basic skill, but a little harder in terms of difficulty.
- Interacting with the dreamscape. The next step is a more advanced form of interacting within the dreamscape. This involves trying to see if they can use any of their own abilities as a dreamwalker and if they can use their own dream energy to form new abilities. This is very difficult. The most anyone will be able to accomplish at this stage is create a small object or weapon, and even then it will be rather crude and weak. They will not be able to destroy anything, but they will be able to notice that everything within the dreamscape will very realistic.
- Leaving the dreamscape. The final step characters will learn is how to safely leave a dreamscape rather than being force, or ejected, out of the dream. It's basically the reverse of entering: they will have to focus and concentrate on waking up and returning to their physical body. It really is like just waking up from a dream.
- Side effects. Some characters may feel very fatigued after this exercise, both mentally and physically. These are signs of the dream sickness. If they use up a lot of dream energy, they may not even complete the course and feel sick. However, this should only last for a few days. After proper rest, they will be back to normal and can continue the exercises. Special medication is also available.
- Schedule. This all will happen in one log on Wednesday, September 7. Here's a neat little bullet list that works as a sort of itinerary plus explanations:
- Meeting. Meet Aisling at the floating mountain
- Facility. Be taken to the facility where characters will be exploring their newfound abilities.
- Training. Learn all the cool stuff!
- Create dreamfields.
- Create dreamwalker form.
- Entering the dreamscape.
- Advanced interaction.
- Leaving the dreamscape.
- Return. Everyone is free to leave whenever, but they'll be sent back at the end of the day.
- Sign-up. As usual, in a case like this we're handwaving IC sign-ups. You can assume whether or not your character chose to respond, and remember it's not really required to respond to be able to jump into the training log. It's at the Coliseum and easy to find.
So if you want your character in it, just comment to this post with the character. This is to also help us give an idea on how much activity to expect in the post.
- NO DREAMWALKING OUTSIDE OF TRAINING. Sorry for the obnoxious caps, but just want to be sure this is clear. Though characters are starting to learn their abilities, they can only do it while under the supervision of the facility NPCS. Even if they tried to do it on their own, they will not be able to for this week. It just won't work. Next week we'll open it up for a bit more free reign, and we'll put up the rules then. If you have concerns about that, we only ask you wait until that post goes up since what we have may address most of them. We'll try to post it a day or two early like this one so we can cover as much as possible.
- Crack Community is a go. Refer to this post about the community in general. But it looks like the majority won with the results 29-9 in favor of the community. Thanks to everyone who participated and gave their input. We'll be setting up and will officially open the community sometime this month. Most likely we'll also have a meme ready to kick it off. With an off week coming up, it should be all right as a little break. Remember guys, don't get too consumed by it!
- Cut the chatroom? One final thing. Somarium has had a game chat for most of its run, but it's pretty much died over the past year. Game chatrooms have also declined in LJRP in general. Since it's really not seeing much use, we're asking you guys if we should just cut it out completely from the game. Just vote here and feel free to leave your opinions in the post as well!
Poll IRC Chatroom
And that's it. It's quite a bit, but once this gets knocked out of the way, a lot of fun things will happen. Also, if you're curious how this will work in the future, we have that detailed out on the main Dreamwalker page listed in the notes. We're not giving out too many specifics on how this will work in the future since there's still a lot of time until that happens. But once we get closer to it, we'll be sure to give everyone a heads up.
