❖ MOON CYCLE 83 ❂ 09/19/11 - 09/25/11
Phase: New moon. The nights are pitch black with not even a star in the sky.
Weather: What happened to those warm days? Everyday seems overcast, windy, and chilly. It even looks like it could rain some days, but it never does. Evenings are even worse. Hope everyone has started to buy clothing for the colder season!

Effects: All dreams will either exert some kind of positive or negative dream energy. This will affect those stuck in the dreamscape. Read the notes below for more details.
Notes: It's time for the new moon event! Just a few extra notes, but the bulk of the event can be found
here.
- Event summary. Just a quick reminder of what the event is about. There are two sides that characters can be a part of:
- Side A. Enter a set dreamscape and be stuck in an environment that can be affected by dreams. Characters cannot dreamwalk into other character dreams; they are stuck in every sense of the word until the event ends. They will basically be fighting, running, or investigating within the dreamscape. They will also be receive various effects depending on what characters back in Somarium dream.
- Side B. Stay in Somarium and create a plethora of dreams that can affect the dreamscape that characters are stuck in. Like those in Side A, characters cannot dreamwalk into the Side A dreamscape. They can dreamwalk into other Side B character dreams, but that's it. The effects of their dreams can be either positive or negative.
And then there's the third option of not doing either, which is perfectly acceptable!
Quick reminder: you cannot switch sides. However, characters from each side can still use their Dreamberries and contact one another through them. Characters in Side A can also watch dreams, but they cannot interact with them.
- Event schedule. Just a quick reminder of what the event schedule looks like:
- Sunday, 9/18 - NPC post alerting characters of the upcoming dreamscape
- Tuesday, 9/20 - Dreamscape post goes up, signaling event start for Side A only
- Wednesday, 9/21 - NPC post for dream energy goes up, signaling event start for Side B only
- Monday, 9/25 - Event ends.
We'll allow backlogging/tagging, but try to get most of your posts at least made during the event.
- Dream content. Since the dreams can have either a positive or negative effect, we're going to do a quick explanation of what counts.
- Positive dream energy. These are the dreams that Ryan is going to ask everyone to create. Basically anything cheerful will work. Cute kittens, a happy memory, something funny. Anything that would be considered as "good" by most people's standards. Another type is mentioned in the main plot post, overcoming one's fear. Basically, the dream focuses on a character's fear or nightmare. It can be a small or powerful fear. But by the end of the dream, the character overcomes it.
- Negative dream energy. Or nightmare fuel energy. Some characters may not want to help, and it is new moon. This is basically the complete opposite of the above positive type dreams. Horror, twisted, psychological, painful-basically anything dark and not nice. There's also an opposite of the "overcoming one's fear" type of dream: succumbing to one's fear. It's pretty self-explanatory. Should a character fail to overcome their fear, it will be considered a nightmare instead.
- By whose standard? Like trash, one person's nightmare is another person's pleasure. If a dream of kittens would be considered a nightmare for your character, then it can be a nightmare. But if you or the character want it to be positive dream energy, then it can also be that. By default, however, it will turn into nightmare energy since it is the new moon.
- Interactive or non-interactive. The dreams can be either interactive or non-interactive. Characters can even influence how a dream turns out, such as helping or hindering a character overcome their fear. In this case, if you do not have a set ending, we suggest giving both possible positive or negative dream effects (to be explained below)
- Bonus dream effects. We will have another post that will list all the possible dream effects that you can choose from. There will be both positive and negative ones. As you can guess, the positive effects will result from positive dreams and the negative effects will result from the negative dreams. Here are just a few more quick guidelines:
- Linking and labeling. You will need to both link your dream to that post and label your dreams with the name of the effect. Just the name will work since players can refer to the master list to see what each one does.
- Choose whichever you want. The effects do not have to match the content of the dream-it can be completely random. Characters won't know what's available, anyway, but they'll at least know that something will happen. Of course you can try to have the dream match the effects, but it's not necessary.
- Up for grabs. As mentioned in the post, it is possible for a character to deliberately try to send the effect to a certain character. However, other characters can still receive the benefit. It's sort of like a splash effect. The effects are also open for anyone, so there is no need to try and claim any.
- Only use what's available. Even though we have a master list, Side A characters can only use the effects that have been created by the characters. So if a defense boost is not available yet, you will not be able to use it until someone makes a post with it. So if you're not sure what bonus effect to put, just check the list to see what is already available. Having more than one is also completely fine! These are temporary, so having a good supply would be beneficial.
- Only works for Side A. The bonus effects will only work on the characters in Side A. Sorry, Side B dreamwalkers. No bonus effects for you.
It's pretty straightforward, but if you have any questions, feel free to ask.
- Posting. After their respective signal posts go up, everyone can make their own log and/or dream posts. All dreams should be posted on the journals. Now because we basically have two different "locations," please indicate which side your character is when posting and use the following tags for your logs:
Side A: !moon: cycle 83 - side a
Side B: !moon: cycle 83 - side b
And that should be it! If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, feel free to ask here.
