[Cid's gruff voice shouted from inside.]

[And Jensen heads on in, all grins as he raises the plastic bag for Cid to see.]

Hey Cid. Got that tea of yours as promised.

[only gives it the barest of glances before muttering and returning to tinkering with a truck engine.]

Better not be some cheap, dainty brand.

Cheap, dainty tea. Why would I even think about picking something like that?

[His tone might sound a little teasing as he places the bag onto a nearby table.]

[just grunts before finally pulling away and leaning against the truck, facing him.]

All right, so what did you want to talk about?

You really aren't one for small talk are you?

[He takes a can of beer from the plastic, popping it open and taking a sip.]

During the flood, you had a couple of those things on the airship right? What did you call them again? Skyrunners, right?

Yeah. What about 'em?

Exactly what do you use to power them?

[He's genuinely curious because hey, never seen anything like it before.]

Somethin' called Dream Cores.

[he moves over to a nearby cabinet. opening it, Jensen could see quite a few weird looking cylindrical tubes in even stranger casings. after Cid picked one out, he held it out so Jensen could also see the glowing fluid inside it.]

They're like one super-sized battery. Just need one of these to move a car, so long as it's the right one.

[Now that was something he had never seen before. Consider his interest immediately piqued. He takes another sip out of the beer can in his hand, his eyes never leaving the Dream Core that Cid holds out.]

Where did you even get these? It's like your whole cabinet's stocked with them.

Remember back when we had those alternate lives? Yeah, ain't the first time. First time around I was head engineer for these things, so I still remember not only where ta get 'em, but how to use and even make 'em. Course I don't have all the tools ta really produce any, but there are factories around here that produce the generic cores. Rest you can take from pretty much anything.

Wow, head engineer. Pretty sure that didn't make you a lot of friends, did it?

And you've been using these since, huh. How long do they last usually? What about the main source. What have you been using to power these up? [Putting that can aside so he can take the core from Cid to get a better look at it for himself.]

[just gives him a look, but he lets Jensen take it so he can look. if he breaks it, not his fault if it explodes in his face.]

That one you got in your hand? Pretty sure that's been around since before I've been around, so maybe years. Depends on the type if I remember right.

And they're not called dream cores just because this place is some dream world. It's dream energy. How it gets in there, I have no idea.

As for powerin' 'em up, I got a special generator.

There's even different types? Sounds like you've got enough power in here to light up the city during the next blackout.

But I've heard of dream energy before. Not the exact details of how it works and where it comes from either but if you can harness that type of energy into something like this...

Was it just you in that engineering team? I'll bet there are a lot of people out there who'd want to know more about this.

Pretty sure that is what this city runs on. Dunno if you remember that blackout from before, but if I had known where those damn generators were I would have been able to fix it. They're somewhere underground, but never learned where.

As for the team, there were others. I'm just the only one left.

[His voice takes a teasing tone as he places the core back onto the table.]
