[there was still time before they were to release the lanterns, and Tamaki was gently pulling Haruhi along behind him down a somewhat familiar path up to a certain, particular spot a little ways away from everyone else.]

We're almost there!

[despite the nerves that had been slowly gathering, he was still feeling rather excited about the whole event.]

Where are we going? Aren't we supposed to be over that way...?

I know this isn't really anything new for you, but I'm really impressed you organised something like this for one person's dream.

This is where we went during last year's festival.

[he lets go of her hand only so he could hand her her lantern that he had been carrying alongside his.]

I thought it would be fitting if we were here for this year's festival.

[Haruhi takes the lantern in both hands and looks at it as she responds]

I don't know if fitting is the right word, but... it is a really nice spot.

[looking up]

As long as we watch our step this time.

Next time there's a gathering like this, I want us to all be together.

[looks at her for a moment before smiling.]

...Mm. I agree. It would be nice if we could all be together for this.

All of our families together. [she finishes a little more quietly, though still looking at him. though she was thinking selfishly when she initially thought of what her "wish" would be, when it came to the host club "family" it was hard not to think of Tamaki's real family that had driven many of his family delusions in the first place. especially when she had seen his mother more recently than he had, in the weird way times worked here.]

...But-[after a pause]-for now, I think I'm pretty happy.

[it was a nice image. imagining all of their families together...his family together...

there's a moment where his free hand slowly fingers his pocket before he cleared his throat and held up his lantern to her.]
