statue invasion | aftermath [signal post]

When the statue finally went down into the sink hole late Friday evening, the local military personnel immediately secured the area. No one was getting by them-not immediately, anyway. Patrols were also stationed all around the perimeter. Everyone had hoped that like last time the barrier that had fallen during the attack would be restored immediately like always, but when dawn approached and it was still down, they prepared for the worst. Without the barrier, the city was now completely vulnerable to the dangers that inhabited the desert.

As for the city, before it had been difficult to assess the full extent of the damage brought by the statue. But now as more people began to come out and look, it was clear that there was a lot of work ahead for them. The number of deaths and critically injured were going to be high as the less fortunate victims were slowly pulled out of the rubble and searches for survivors went underway. However, it could have been worse. A lot worse. Due to everyone's efforts, the statue's destructive path was at least contained to one side of the large city. If one were to look at Somarium from high above, it really would have been an odd sight. The left half was untouched, but the right had been completely ravaged.

The Residential District suffered only minor damage around its outer edges, and the village also received some damage, but the Government and Industrial districts took most of the damage, especially the Industrial District. Any building that wasn't already destroyed was crumbling, parts of the statue-including large pieces of those lethal knives-scattered everywhere, streets torn up and ruined. Power was also down for most of the two districts, and it would be awhile before they were restored.

For the moment, those who resided in the Government and Industrial districts were being relocated and spread out across the still functioning districts until (once again) restoration was completed. Residents were allowed to enter the districts with caution, but for some reason security in the Industrial District won't let people too far in. Everything deep inside the district was blocked off. To some it may feel eerily reminiscent of a previous event that had occurred not too long ago.

Other than the destruction, there was one last little memento the statue left before disappearing down into the murky depths of the sink hole. It was hard to miss. There, sticking out of the floating mountain, was one of its largest blades. Stranger still, every now and then it would glow, and any who managed to reach and investigated it would hear a strange hum. Usually whenever the barrier went down, a strange light would appear from the mountain and the barrier would be repaired. Could this blade be interfering with this...?
