At around noontime, any characters hanging about the Espoir Village Square may have noticed some strange occurrence happening at the top of the sky. It was a bright, shining light from far above. In fact, it seemed to be a bright golden beam of light from the top of the floating mountain, and in the afternoon wintry air its peaks shimmered and gleamed. Those closest to the fountain in the center square may have heard the faint jingling of bells on the wind.
And then a transformation began.
The spark started at the top of the rabbit statue. The drab gray stone gleamed into a bright, shining white. Seconds after this subtle transformation, the water (mysteriously untouched and free-flowing even in the freezing winter weather) burst into a steaming brown concoction. The smell of hearth-warmed chocolate was in the air.
The shimmering gold ripple rapidly spread from the center statue. First, the snow's texture changed: ice creams, puddings, icings, and sprinkles abounded. Characters in their homes found themselves no longer sitting on a chair but on a giant licorice-spun stool. Homes became bright and colorful gingerbread houses. Trees developed cinnamon bark and gumdrop fruits. Skyscrapers transfigured into graham crackers and chocolate bars and chocolate wavers. Gravestones became cookies, lanterns became sugar fixtures, and streams smelled as sweet as maple syrup. Nutcrackers hopped through the streets, silent sentries of this magical wonderland.
Somarium had become a child's sweetest dream.
And hanging high above the heads of bewildered Sommunists sat the floating mountain, untouched by this magic save for the sugar and rainbow sprinkle shakers in the sky over its peaks, sending a steady stream of sweet flakes down onto the mountain and city below.
