It had been peaceful lately. So peaceful. Nothing eventful had happened, the people had gone about their lives as usual.
But that wasn't going to last. And she had known.
Known since a few months back then something was coming. She had no clue what, did not know when. Only that it would.
...And it finally did.
An encroaching darkness had been seen out in the desert, but no one had noticed. Now...the skies were dark, the winds had picked up, and over night the already brisk air had become colder.
And there was an eerie silence. During the night, inhabitants might have felt a strange tingle go through their body. Their dreams may have had held a sense of foreboding no matter how good it was. They may have even woken up during the night only to fall back asleep.
But nothing stirred. Not even the leaves or a blade of grass.
It was so silent that the loud CRACK that suddenly roared around the area would have snapped anyone awake and wonder if some explosion had gone off right next to their ear. And then they would hear the sound that had not been heard in years, possibly even centuries.
Rain.
But it was a warm, black rain and came down in sheets. It glistened in the dull moonlight, the white sphere now almost full, and a tinge of red could be seen around the rims.
One second. Two. Three. Four...then another CRACK and roar as lightning streaked through the skies of Somarium. The storm the Overlord had foreseen had finally arrived...but that was not all.
Soon the ground beneath them started to rumble, objects starting to teeter and fall. In the distance, somewhere in the city, buildings began to move and sway, and cracks crawled across the paved streets. Closer still to the barrier and even moreso in that mysterious Industrial District, the ground trembled and bucked until it rose, splitting what concrete was left and creating large chasms. Soon the aftershocks would reach the center of the village, rolling waves of shaking earth, and the more worn and old cottages would crumble from the stress.
Somarium was facing two natural disasters at once, and the residents could only ride it out.
