Okay, we have a number of small/medium-sized announcements to make, and one big one at the end, so please read!
THE SMALL THINGS
- Just a quick reminder that the activity check ends on Friday, and everyone must comment there to pass if you aren't exempt.
- From the Questions/Suggestions post: We've never really had a policy on this either way, since no one ever asked, but as of now webcomic characters are officially allowed to be apped. The only requirement is that the comic is "established", meaning it's been around a while and has a decent readerbase. So if anyone's interested in applying for a webcomic character, go for it!
- Also from the Questions/Suggestions post, and also a new policy: Characters from non-magical canons are now allowed to learn magic from other characters. There are some restrictions on this, and they're described on this page on the wiki. Please go read that page if you're interested!
- Several months ago, we started writing up another FAQ page to have information about miscellaenous sorts of things -- things about how the world works that just don't really belong anywhere else. And we forgot about it for a while, but now we've updated and finished it, and it's available on the wiki: Everything You Need to Know About...
Note that, while we've tried to include as much as we can, there are probably some things we've missed. We're going to try to think of more things to put on there, but if anyone else has something they'd like added, please let us know. - We said a while ago that we would make some kind of confidential mod contact post for sensitive issues, and now we have. The Confidential Contact post is now available for any more private concerns people might have. Please read the instructions there if you want to know exactly how it works.
UPCOMING EVENT NOTICE!
And finally, the most fun part! Remember how the ghosts
blocked off the area where the fountain used to be? There's actually a reason for that...the fountain was covering up a hidden entrance to a series of tunnels underneath the city. And soon, we're going to reveal this and let a bunch of characters go down and explore.
We'll make another post in a bit providing full details on this, but for right now:
- The tunnels are a maze. There will traps, wrong turns, and one or two big monsters running around. And some creepy decorations, because what's a maze without a few skeletons lying around?
- There's treasure at the end! Well not treasure, exactly, but at the end of the tunnels, the characters will find some very important things: the supercomputer that controls the city, and a number of old books and scrolls with information on Somarium's history, including information about the Noctaere.
- Dreamberries will be limited in their use. The tunnels will mess with their reception, so characters will only be able to make calls to other characters in the tunnels, and even then their range will be very limited. However, characters can freely text anyone else in the tunnels just fine. It's only actual calling that's a problem.
- Characters will be split into "random" groups. Now, to keep things from getting out of hand, we're going to split the exploring characters up into groups, with about five or so in each group. After everyone gets down into the tunnels, an event will happen and they'll be split up into their groups, and each group with be sent to a different starting area of the maze.
When we make the full information post for this event, people will be able to sign their characters up OOCly for groups.
Now, what we'd like from everyone is a rough headcount of who would be interested in participating in this event. It's OPTIONAL, so no one is required to participate, but it should be a good opportunity for characters to explore a new area, find out some more about the world, and interact with the others in their group.
So, if you would be interested in participating with any of your characters, please comment here to say which of your characters would be interested. This is not the sign-up post, just a rough count so we know about how many groups we'll need to make.
If anyone has any questions about any of this, feel free to ask them!
Edit: TENTATIVE DATES!
Here is the tentative schedule in regards to the event:
THURSDAY, JULY 9: Full info + group sign-up post
SUNDAY, JULY 12: Event starts
SATURDAY, JULY 18: Event ends
*Note: The event is going to last a week to allow for players to have a chance to fully explore, however the actual amount of time that passes ICly will be about 3-4.
In other words, there's going to be a bit of a in-game time fudge. We'll provide more details and clarification in the next post, so save those for then.
