❖ MOON CYCLE 08 ❂ 02/22/10 - 03/02/10
Phase: New Moon. The nights are solid black. Daylight hours are overcast and gloomy.
Weather: Subzero freezing temperatures coupled with severe dryness. No matter how many layers of clothes your character wears, the cold still bites to the bone. However, no characters will die of the cold here! No matter how miserable they feel, they will not die.
Effects: Effective immediately (Tuesday, February 23) the Dreamberry translators will be knocked out of commission. This will last until Friday, February 26th at 11:59pm CST. Characters will also begin to experience recurring flashback nightmares of their worst memory. Recording this nightmare on the Dreamberry is optional, but every night upon falling asleep, your character will have the same exact nightmare. Lastly, no character will be able to die over the next week.
On February 27th through March 2nd, your characters will wake up in a new place entirely. Keep an eye out for the signal posts during the first hour of the 26th.
See detailed notes below.
Notes: Language Barriers Ahoy!
GOOD NEWS - The Dreamberries are no longer glitchy.
BAD NEWS - Everyone else is completely incomprehensible.
The Dreamberry translators are no longer functional and will remain dysfunctional until the end of February 26th. That means that texting, speaking, and writing, be it in person or through the Dreamberry, will no longer be understood cross-world or cross-fandom. Your characters must learn how to navigate the Language Barrier on their own. Please keep the following rules in mind for this leg of the event:
- All characters, no matter how many languages they know canonically, are limited to understanding only two languages for the purposes of this event. This means they will be able to speak their primary language, and one additional language. The rest will be inaccessible - temporarily forgotten - for the duration of this moon cycle.
Note: This is for characters who know more than one language. Those who know only one or two languages won't have to worry about the two language restriction. Just remember that the language cannot change at any time. - If your character is from a location other than Earth and/or they have an unspecified language, the character is assumed to speak either English or Japanese. Feel free to pick one and roll with it for the entire event.
- Dreams, if written during this period, are universally understood. Communicating with the dreamer is another story.
- Please do not babelfish your posts into foreign languages. Simply label your posts and comments with the language your character is speaking and write in English as normal. All you need to do is keep in mind that conflicting languages cannot be understood!
- Your characters must get creative with communication. Mime, play charades, make ridiculous hand gestures. Go all-out, we encourage it!
Due to the nature of this part of the event, participation is mandatory. By this we mean all characters will be affected with no exception. Backdating is always welcome and encouraged.
Flashback Nightmares
These will begin at your own discretion and continue until the end of March 2nd. Remember that nightmares will occur every night. If you choose to write a dream, please write it only once. Writing the dream is optional, but it is assume to occur every night if your character chooses to sleep.
NO DYING?
That's right. Your characters can't die at all. Stabbing will hurt, but your heart will continue to beat. Try hanging yourself and your characters will chill out from the end of a rope. Attempted suffocation or drowning will bring no relief of blackness. Characters are now completely impervious to death.
That means no suicides from relieving worst nightmares, folks. Again, this effect will last all the way until March 2nd.
What's this about waking up SOMEWHERE ELSE?
As it sounds. Full details will be disclosed on February 25th/26th, but beginning on February 27th, your characters will wake up to a very different Somarium. There they will remain until March 2nd.
