Moon Cycle 36: 9/21 - 9/26: Full Moon - AUTUMN FESTIVAL

Sep 21, 2010 00:44

❖ MOON CYCLE 36 ❂ 9/21/10 - 09/26/10
Phase: Full moon; thou still dimmer than it has been in the past, the moon has a soft, golden glow. The stars will be out, and there will be times where some seem more clustered together than others.

Weather: Perfect autumn weather will be falling on Somarium. Its still relatively warm, but the evenings and late night hours will be more brisk than usual. Light jackets are recommended for those late night walks. The temperatures will range from low 60s °F and mid 70s °F. The leaves will slowly be changing colors throughout the week, but it's a slow process. Regardless, everything will have a crisp, refreshing atmosphere to it.

Effects: There are no real effects this week, but the atmosphere may have characters feeling more invigorated than usual. Dreams will be mostly happy, with the light colored orange.

Notes: Throughout the week, everyone in Somarium will notice that the Somarium Autumn Festival the NPCs have been buzzing about will be fully up and running. Since there's quite a bit, we're effectively dividing the event in half with a grand finale at the end, so read the details below!

FROM TUESDAY, 9/21 THROUGH THURSDAY, 9/23:
  • Everyone is off for the week, except the police. School's out and all employments except the police will be off as well. This lasts through the whole week, and the regular schedule will pick up the week after.

  • Blocked off streets. In both the Shopping (2nd) and Business (3rd) districts, various streets will be blocked off. There will be fun game, sales, foods, and other sorts of booths and carts lining up the roads that the characters can visit and participate in. Here characters will find special goods that may be difficult to find in the standard stores, perhaps even impossible! All sorts of goods can be found for a low price.

FROM THURSDAY, 9/23 THROUGH SUNDAY 9/26:
  • HUGE sales. All the major shopping centers will have huge sales going on, and the items from the booths will also be reduced in price slightly. More stores will offer freebies and extra gifts upon purchasing.

  • A bunch of stuff. Starting Thursday, all of the huge game events will be available to the characters in the village, Espoir and the carnival. Most of the real, fun action will be taking place in these two areas. In addition to the standard rides the carnival will give, the following festival activities will be available:
    • Corn Maze. One random field will suddenly be filled with super tall corn stalks and designed as a maze. Since there's no magic involved, it is technically possible for characters to cheat and just go through the "walls". However, the scarecrows have been employed, so if they catch someone cheating, they will do whatever necessary to either throw them out (literally) or chase them out. So dont make them mad!

    • Apple orchard. In the southwest corner of the village where there are a lot of trees, an apple orchard will have magically appeared. Here, characters will be free to pick the freshest apples the world has to offer. Of course, there are limits (only one basket per person per day!), but the maintainers of the orchard won't mind too terribly.

    • Vegetable picking. Similar to the apple orchard, the farmers will allow public access to pick various vegetables from their fields. Again, don't go too overboard.

    • Mini rodeos. Ever wanted to try to ride a bull or wild horse? Here's your chance! One of the farms has set up a fenced in field just for the purpose of allowing characters to see if they have what it takes to stay on either of these wild tempered animals. Let's hope the bull doesn't escape.

    • Pony rides/Petting Zoo. That same farm will allow pony rides to those who want a nice casual ride around the property, and the barn will be open for the public so characters can just have fun and pet the farm animals. Great for the little kids.

    • Pig Racing. Yes. Pig Racing. Go wild.

    • Build a scarecrow. Though they can be annoying, everyone loves the scarecrows right? Here's your chance to build your very own! You can even take it home for target practice if you'd like.

    • Pumpkin catapult. That's right. Using catapults to see which pumpkin can be flung the farthest. Well, this is actually something going on between the NPCs, though characters could get in on it if they want. The only thing we want to note is that sometimes pumpkins may fall from the sky. Watch your head!

    • Concerts and bonfires. Each evening, there will various concerts and bonfires held near the main plaza of the village. One can assume that the music will have more of a country feel, but there could be some more modern music in the mix as well. Characters are free to participate.

    • Square dancing. Tying in with the above concerts, characters can participate in traditional, folk square dancing every evening! There may even be dancing contests.

    • Fishing contest. This will be out in the lake, but everyone will be free to fish and try to see who can bag the biggest fish! Who knows, you may catch the lake resident, Nessie...

ON SUNDAY, 9/26:
  • Final Folk Dance. There will be one last dance to signify the end of the festival. This will start in the late afternoon and carry over into the early evening, at which point there will be...

  • Fireworks. The NPCs are going out with a bang. There will be a grand fireworks display that will be set off from the floating mountain, but it can be seen everywhere.

Though we listed quite a few games and events in this post, if you have any other suggestions or think of other possible festival games that could be part of this, feel free to either comment here or go ahead and do it! Players are also free to make general open posts regarding the events. For example, if someone wants to do a general open CORN MAZE post, everyone who wants to participate in the corn maze could use that instead of making several posts at once. Normally for these type of events we would just make one large post with sub-threads, but due to the complexity, we're giving players free rein.

There will be a signal post for each of part of the event to help people recognize what's happening. They will be relatively short, but like in the past, players are free to use these posts for first impressions to prevent flooding the network. Directions will be specified on each post.

The tag for this event is !moon: cycle 36.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to comment here, and you can use this for plotting purposes as well. We hope everyone will have fun!
