you're the hope that ends disaster

Henry has made an excellent recovery - he was never known for being sickly, not in this life or the last, and he's not surprised, though the process was hampered by his growing impatience at not being able to do anything. Both his condition and the person who put him in it are out of reach, for now, though he did visit his (former) landlord and ( Read more... )

Alexander is supposed to be washing dishes - or something, it's after dinner, he was, at some point, cleaning up - but there was a little green garter snake on the ledge outside the kitchen window, so he stopped to go get her and move her away where the dogs couldn't get her. He doesn't know why he decided the little thing now coiling over the back of his hand is a girl; it doesn't matter, and as he crouches down off the edge of the yard outside the dog fence he reflects on how this sort of thing would, a few months ago, make him woefully nostalgic. Not any longer.

The tiny thing slithers away and he stands up, coming back into the house just in time to hear Henry laugh. "That's a terrible thing to say about anyone's mother," he murmurs, amused, leaning over the back of the sofa to pet Nana as well before wrapping his arms around Henry's shoulders. "Even if she's the cutest dog in the world."

"In terms of distracting me from myself, they're indistinguishable," he retorts, fondly, putting a hand on Alexander's arm and tilting his head back to look up at him, "Ready to let me clean up, yet?"

And in the name of pushing his luck, he rises up and kisses his jaw, residual ache in his side refreshing only because it's less than it was. Soon he'll be out there sparring with him, one way or another, and he'd going to stay firm on that point.

"No," he retorts, stubborn only because Henry insists on pushing him. Part of him realizes that his attitudes during his lover's recovery have been... somewhat overkill and perhaps paranoid and a little dramatic, but he can't bring himself to unwind from the fear that's haunted him these past twenty years. He is, at least, getting better about it.

"I have something to show you, though." Something he's been putting off in favor of not giving Henry a coronary, which is why he sounds somewhat hesitant.

"Eventually," he says, gently, settling back down. The key to living with Alexander is knowing both of your limits, or so he'd say if pressed to say anything about it. Nana, perhaps sensing the subtle shift in mood, settles down herself.

"And what do you want to show me?" He asks, interest clear- he's thinking potential expansion on their plans for taking care of their...'problem'.
