It's about one in the morning when Mina calls Henry's phone, so it's understandable that she'd get his voicemail!

"Henry," she says, sounding so blase it's obviously hiding something else, "I'm sorry, you're probably asleep, but I thought I'd let you know so there are no surprises in the morning: I got into town late tonight, but unfortunately someone tried to kill me, and the police are valiantly pretending they care. Anyway, I'm probably going to the Lucerna if I don't end up going to the hospital. Call me when you get this!"

Henry isn't quite surprised to get the message, but he's concerned. They're acting with a less subtlety than he'd expect, which means that somebody - and Mina has a lot of 'somebodies' - was trying to make a point.

He calls back, hoping she'll still be awake. And alive, that'd also be nice.

She is both awake and alive. Sleep isn't coming easily, surprise surprise. Mina snags her phone on the third ring and settles down on the edge of her bed, laptop laid out on the end of it, glowing. She's working, of course, because she's insane.

"Henry," she greets, mildly, "you got my message?"

"I did. How are you?" She sounds calm, and he's sure she genuinely is. It's one of the many, many reasons he's glad they generally get along.

He glances up at Alex, still in bed, and feels compelled to add: "Alex is here too, I went to wake him up before I called." All the way across the room, no less, and if this weren't enough to worry about he'd be worrying about that.
