A Bisquick, a basque-ette, of tiger is my task.... ette

Sterno's p's lived in an upscale, down home, oldie kinda neighborhood. They had this GREAT house, it was HUGE (well it seemed big to a kid who grew up in a 3 bedroom appartment with 4 other people). They were quite the nice folks as well. Wait, you do realize, that I use a tense that is past, simply because I speak of many years gone by, NOT ( Read more... )

guilty? some_mensch December 15 2005, 04:45:56 UTC
nah, they can fend for themselves. Say, your animé style picture of not yourself, looks unfamiliar. But from the inflection in your voice, you sound like that little red headed girl who sat in the back of the class. You should email me at the Bob & stu show, I can add you to my xmas card list...

Remember high school? we were never in each others classes... remember how we never saw each other in the hallway? How.... come to think of it, during high school, we interacted very little. Ah those crazy school daze ;) Well, anyway, thats not whats important, xmas card lists are what's important now.

Remember the Lisa that was down there in Tiger's Basement? Is that what you found in the ancient box? Wait the computer was called an Apple Lisa right? Boh?

But my memory is not completely gone. If I recall properly, The man started with an Apple II+ computer with 48k or memory, one crappy monitor and two, count em two floppy disk drivers. He upgraded to an Apple IIe, and used a newer version of Applewriter. But his first Apple II was upper case only, and the books he wrote on it were written in Applewrite (first version, before it got a number).

When he upgraded to the //e, he also got a new applewriter II package, and appleworks at some point.
I think he had an IDS paper tiger printer which needed its print heads manually cleaned every now and then.

Speaking of hardware, there was an Apple /// that you let Niquie use for word-processing. Do those files still exist? I would really like to re-read her copycat Pinteresque version of our relationship. (She fulfilled her English assignments by re-writing Pinter with our names penciled-in.)

Reading your memory rants is more fun then I have had in a long time. I remember- storming into Tien Tsin and eating up a whole lot of pot stickers. I also remember the scariest car ride I have ever had the pleasure to survive: Big Jim driving, both of us out of our minds, going to buy more booze to bring back to a party at the aforementioned Foose's crib. Yikes. I also remember a tale involving a call to the reference librarian (google before there was google) for information on how to cook a lobster. Poor lobster ( ... )

Oh, I remember that very same car trip. although, how, I can not imagine!

You are correct of course about the upper/lower case, as I now remember adding the lower case conversion to that Apple II+ myself (Solder wire from shift key on keyboard to socket, plug socket into game controller socket, shift key was paddle button #2)

I further remember said Lobster, Fritz was his namo. He came home to the chez in a dominics paper bag, and was cooked in a drunken stupore. (The librarian said, throw into rapid boiling water, when it turns red and floats up, its done, should take x minutes). Ah the reference desk, they were awsome! You know, maybe we imbibed a little too much in those days.

Welcome to my memory vomitting. Glad to have you aboard, mi amigo

I don't have your email- I will call stern later today and ask him. I'm new to this and I am a little shy about putting contact info in a public forum. I will call or email soon.

More stories!! chezsterno December 15 2005, 20:13:15 UTC
I am very much enjoying reading someone else’s take on our old stories. Somehow, I was always the one to tell the stories. Whether it was because I was more aggressive in telling my version, or people just expected me to be the storyteller, or they liked my embellished versions, or they were just being kind, or some other reason that I do not know.
Although, it does feel a little like I’m being eulogized.
But that’s OK-I want to hear more stories!!

Well, you were so good at telling stories, especially as the embellishments folded in fairly seamlessly with the rest of it. Remember, it all started in a little hut in Alaska, didn't it?

Eulogize shmooligize...Stern, if you want to tell the story your way (embelished?!) then stop watching so much mtv and get typing. I know, I know, no cable at home, no high speed internet at the hospital. But you know what I mean: PLEASE WRITE SOME STORIES.
