My god, what IS that thing?

Replacing a cat is simple, you go to the animal rescue place, and simply choose from the miriad of options. What kinda cat does this net? I am not certain, its a kitten, and not even old enough to be on its own. We have "reserved" it. I fear that nothing good can come from this, as the kitten was born to be abandoned, and raised in its formative ( Read more... )

I agree with you, cats will let you know what their names are. If you assign it a name the moment you take it home, you will only find yourself calling it by it's real name a few months later anyhow. Don't name it right away, live with it for a while and it's name will come to you.

hmmm, I see your point bigblued August 1 2006, 07:27:40 UTC
but then, all the good names may already be taken. My last cat was Piggie, and the 4 before that Fred, so maybe I am outta names anyway. Maybe We should call it cat. This cat is black with green eyes, I am lost.

Black Fred, Grey Fred, Flat Fred, and of course... Fred

However, since it WAS born in a barn, it is welcome to leave any doors open it likes.

I agree with you on the over time thing. Somehow, Buddha just turned out too neurotic for his name but Boo fits. Evil, however was an excellent choice.

Chaos is good but having a cat named after your wife seems like a bad plan. Monster is also good. WHen we brought home 2 cats at once, I suggested Yahoo and Google.

Live with the cat a day or so, that should give you some idea of personality. Then you'll know if it's Demon or CupCake (not that I would ever name some poor innocent animal Cup Cake.)

shouldn't you lobby for something like "latest fred"????

I can see naming an animal cup cake, but thats more of a snake or lizzard name, if you ask me. I wish Evil wasn't used up, that sounds like a fair choice.

But, after consulting with the capo di capo, I can only add Demon to the list of possibles.

Duly noted and if used, that $100 will be on its way to a litty prisson to help with the inmates.

well, thanks for the sympathyu, but being the pragmatist, I can tell you that it was the cats time. I feel good when things die in their proper time and place, actually. It is comforting for one such as me who has no super-natural based beliefs to think that things run in an orderly fashion. Even entropy is orderly and predictable in its destructive randomness.

Some time we can discuss random number thoery if you like ;)

Of the names offered, we will put "Loki" on the list the others seem a bit much (God, Luna) or inappropriate (I call the dogs "dog"... and Killer? we won't know for several months if the cat is a wuss or not). or simple baffling (Marie Chantal, as in the fasion line???)

Thanks for your entry

I think you just call the cat Fred and if something better comes along you change it. Cat's don't give a damn what you call them as long as it not Late For Supper.

And now the bad news: Stern is not feeling too well these days. He's at Evanston Hospital. He is not looking for calls or visits right now, but he would appreciate cards- he can read them or his family will read them to him.

re: Stern
Crap! He wasn't up to chatting much when I reached him the other week, but I hadn't known he was in the hospital. Thanks for the notice.
