Birthday Sentences!

Happy Belated Birthday, Masa! ♥

See? It's a real heart. And I'm sorry, they came out. Not sentencey.

Deceive
"I stay like this because I want to, so back off, Kurt!"

Disarm
Rogue sat in the corner of the room, pretending she wasn't listening, like always as Kurt told his story. He watched out of the corner of his eye, timing his moment... three, two... punchline! Rogue choked on her drink, spewing Pepsi out of her nose with laughter.

Frighten
"...do I scare you?" His eyes glowed yellow.
"No." She fiddled with a glove. "Do Ah scare you?"
"No."

Knot
Shared isolation, shared betrayal, common goals, common enemies, and pure ornery stubbornness can tie two people together closer than blood. Their experiences were one strand, sure, but Kurt's refusal to give up his claim made them siblings more than any paper could.

Pray
She leans against the doorframe, watching from the shadows. His back is to the door; he is facing the moon. Beads shift in the silence.
"How can you believe in a God that would make us - like this."
He whirls, startled, but not surprised. He says her name, then glances down at the beads in his three-fingered hand. "I guess I believe... that if God sent His son to suffer and die for a good reason... then in making us this way, He must have had a purpose too. It's not so bad, to be like this, if we could do some good, yeah?"
Rogue frowns and turns away.
He sighs, looks back out the window, and that night his prayers are not for himself.

Check
Sokka had a list. This was not surprising. Neither was the fact that he'd somehow managed to outmanuever her and arrange it so that she was out while her date thought she was waiting to be picked up.
"--you right or left-footed?"
"Sokka!" Katara marched over and grabbed the unfortunate guy's hand (he looked pale. what had Sokka been doing and why was everything sharp and pointy in the house being sharpened on that table?) to pull him up and away. "Come on. We're leaving." Nevermind that she hadn't had a chance to get ready. She starts pulling her date out the door.
"Wait! You can't go! I'm only halfway through the list!"

Guard
There were nights when he couldn't sleep and would slip outside of the tent to his watchtower, waiting for signs of war with the safety of those sleeping heavy on his shoulders. Those were the mornings he got an extra helping at breakfast. Neither of them said a thing.

Paddle
"Why do you want me to go fishing with you and Zuko if I'm not allowed to talk?"
"Because if we row down there ourselves it'll take three times as long! Come on, Katara!"
She threw a paddle at his head.

Educate
"Stop that, you're thinking like a bender."
"How else am I supposed to be thinking?!"
"Like the only thing that stops me," a feint, a thrust, the sword at her throat, "from killing you is that piece of metal in your hands. Now do it again."

Haunt
"Nervous?"
"No. Why would I be nervous?"
"Oh, I don't know. All the people outside, you kicked everyone else out of the tent, you're getting married--"
"Stop it, Sokka! I'm not nervous about getting married, okay? This is the best day of my life!"
"Uh-huh."
A hand goes up to her bare throat and Katara looks down. "...it feels weird."
Sokka puts one hand on her shoulder. "Aang made you another one. You'll put in on in an hour. An hour and fifteen minutes, tops."
"I know. That's not what I meant."
"...I missed her at mine too."

Wander
She looks down, miserable and determined. "I can't stay here."
"I know." He'd seen it coming. "Where will you go?"
"I'm not sure."
He takes her shoulders, makes her meet his gaze. "Just remember - you can always come back."
