Summary: Adam's three years old when he wakes up to the sound of his mother screaming for something to let her go.

“Let me gooooo!”

Adam's eyes snap open at the sound of his mommy screaming. He sits up in bed and stares at his bedroom door. It's really early, he doesn't know what time, but definitely way too soon to be getting up. His mommy is making scared sounds and like she's being hurt. Fear ensnares him fast and strong, and he can't move. He's lying under the covers pulling them tight over his head listening to his mommy scream and to things crashing down to the floor. What's going on? What's hurting his mommy? Will they get him? Will his mommy be okay?

Adam cries, trying not to make a sound, not that whatever was hurting his mommy would hear him over her wails anyways. But he thinks its better if he's quiet. There's a loud, final screech, and then a series of thuds, and then nothing. He's breathing shallow, waiting.

His bedroom door opens and he's so scared he can't pull the blanket down, but the footsteps don't sound scary, and he mumbles brokenly, “...Mommy?”

His mother doesn't answer, and instead a hand that doesn't feel like hers tries to tug the covers off of him, and he clings tighter. It doesn't matter, that hand is stronger than him and soon he's out in the open. He closes his eyes and curls into a ball, his arms over his head.

“Mommy!” he shouts.

That same hand settles on his shoulder and when he tries to scream a feeling of calmness, happiness envelops him and protects him. The hand is warm.

A voice, deep and inhuman tells him, “Your mother can't be with you anymore.”
