It's utterly impossible to keep track of time in this City.

The creatures that visited were rather interesting, though! The hair beast was a very cooperative experimental subject, although I don't fully understand why it and its counterpart were so determined to return our hair. "A great due was returned"? Utterly baffling ( Read more... )

Hn. That's quite a bit of information you acquired. It makes sense as well..

Well, someone needs to investigate the linguistic significance of messages left by monstrous beings. Actually, there are several different avenues of research opened by this... I suspect a further study of Grecian mythology will reveal a number of things about the City's workings, albeit in a highly codified manner.

I certainly hope it does.

If you're not interested, however, I promise I'll keep my outward enthusiasm and Grecian babble to myself!

Benevolent?

Hm?

Ah. Perhaps "benevolent" wasn't the best word. I don't think she was malicious, at least. In fact, I would think that the higher powers in this City operate in a realm free of morality. They may not be entirely unlike nature, you see--destructive on occasion, sometimes mild, but utterly indifferent.

...I understand. I also may not possess human morality.

Nevertheless, my sensors registered this entity as a threat.

Now that's an answer to a question I wasn't expecting. Though the information you have does make sense when you think about the hints laid out in what she said.

What wasn't expected? The answer, or the question?

I would like to think so! It's still mere conjecture at this point, however.

The answer. Though finding meaning behind some things Adrastus said is still taking some time for me.

All we have to go by everytime is mere conjecture. Though at the same time we can't just write it off knowing how this place likes to throw out surprises at the drop of a hat.

Adrastus left messages?

We may have something solid to act on eventually; it's all a matter of accumulating information. Given the City's propensity to surprise, however, I doubt we'll ever be fully prepared for what it might inflict on us.

It can be plainly seen that the first adheres to some independent system of exchange - in addition to the sacrifices, many archives dating back two years ago imply that no pertinent questions went answered without a dire payment at his discretion. These, also, were eventually returned. What's unclear is the basis by which they determine "balance".

"Balance" could, of course, be entirely arbitrary. As much as I would like to believe that these creatures are essentially neutral and operate much like forces of nature, they may be just as perverse as the deities.

Judging by your analysis, you are suggesting that that woman is the reason for all this City!Dead nonsense? And the reason for my lack of true salvation?

It's a thought, and what she said certainly supports such a conclusion. Nothing's certain... there's simply not enough evidence to back a firm, decisive theory.

Unfortunately, linguistics is a class beyond my capability, so I'm afraid I cannot be much help in that area. Though if I would, I could.

Regardless of intentions, though, I think we all agree a much less sloppy delivery of out hair would have been better. As well as being less irresponsible with it.

Not to worry, of course! I have that area well under control.

I doubt anyone would disagree.
