This was really something special -- subtle, dark, detached and empathetic at the same time. Snape is just so lost; slowly stifling all that was best in himself, and committing who-knows-what horrors along the way. Lupin sees him more accurately than most, in that clear-eyed quiet way of his, and I'm particularly pleased that he noticed everything that used to be *alive* and struggling in him when he was with Lily - the image of waves and of the wolf was wonderful.
