So I think I might have discovered a crucial design flaw in the latest iPod which I was lucky enough to receive as a farewell gift when I left work. Now, I haven't done any research on this or anything, it's just something I've come across during my personal usage of the gadget since acquiring it, and I have to say, if what I have determined is ( Read more... )

i hate to say it, but 1. you're right...i've had my ipod for two years and there's no way to suffle within playlists. and 2. apple ain't going to give a shit about your complaint when they don't care about 60% of their machines having to be replaced up to 3-4 times within their warranties. i'm on my 3rd now, and now that it's out of warranty i can safely say that i'd never buy an apple product again. /end rant.

welcome back! :D

On your ipod:

1. From the main menu, go to 'Settings'
2. The third (on mine, 4G photo ipod) selection from the top is the Shuffle option. By default this is set to 'Off'. Change it to Songs or Albums, to shuffle songs within an album or album within artist.
3. Go play a song in your ipod, and be pleasantly surprised.

PS Someone keeps burping REALLY loudly in this office every thirty minutes.. it's very strange.

oh how I wish you were right... but that's what I was referring to in terms of the older iPods... Now, the shuffle function is located in the MAIN MENU for heaven's sake. Somewhat maddening, there is no shuffle option in the settings menu now. Totally ridiculous considering the purpose of an iPod.

So yeah, cheers for the suggestion... maybe I should trade mine in for an old model! And to think that I put off buying on for so long because I wanted to wait until they were really good... *sigh*

What the?! I have a relatively new ipod (one of the 30gb video ones), and there's a shuffle option in the settings menu. I have shuffle and repeat permanently turned on, so when I play a playlist, artist's full listing, or a whole album, it randomises the order in which the songs of that selection play.

I've had a 4G ipod before as well, and it worked in exactly the same way. I'm not quite sure why both you and Tracii aren't able to get it working. Chris's instructions are exactly what I would've advised. Just ignore the "shuffle songs" option on the main menu and go to settings -> shuffle, and select that until it says "songs".
