we've all been there. looking at it. wondering what to do. what's the social etiquette. what to do about that last piece of donut, Peking duck, orange beef, stuffed eggplant, piece of cake, fry, or whatever is on the table at the moment. it's just sitting there. you know you want the last piece. because that's just it. the LAST piece. once ( Read more... )

i am...none of the above.

if there's food around and it's the last piece and i'm hungry...i don't give a damn, i'm eating it. if someone else wanted it, they would have taken it. i'm not going to say anything, if someone wants it, they'll stop me. but when there is june and food around, you DO NOT MESS WITH IT.

hmm... depends on the atmosphere...
1. if i'm with people I don't know well, it's usually a combination of #4 or just relenting and watching it get thrown out.

2. if i'm with close friends it's #2

3. if it's me, staring over the last piece at my husband on the other side of the table... well, hey all's fair, right baby?

sado

the last piece, la verguenza drdogbrother May 8 2005, 18:12:18 UTC
In Spain, they call the last piece "la pieza de la verguenza," which means "the piece of shame." The way they handle it there is to simply pick up the plate and force the last piece on someone, saying: "te toca la de la verguenza." Or, "it's your turn to eat the piece of shame." So the person has to eat it, but there's really no shame because that person didn't grab it.

I think the Spanish are better at this than we are.

I like your poetic everyday entries.
