The gym: packed. The vitamin store: packed. Must be New Year's.
I rolled my eyes at all the eager resolutioneers, but yeah, I think about goals this time of year. My birthday's this week too, which makes all of that "new year" stuff feel kind of personal.
So,
here's what I'm thinking...
...Work better and shorter. I tend to waste time at the office and then wind up staying late to finish things, so I want to focus while I'm there and then get out as quickly as possible.
...Be a better friend and family member. I need to step it up in terms of getting and staying in touch with people. Plus, I'd like to meet some new ones.
...Write, write, write, write, write. It's getting ridiculous. The last entry on my old blog was dated 7/02, livejournaling's been spotty at best, and fiction? HA HA HA. Looking back at those last blog entries and the comments on them, I'm glum. Somewhere along the line writing just stopped being automatic for me, and my efforts to start up since then have felt more like work. So, the goal here: have fun with it again. Writing is not such a Big Fucking Deal.
...Have more fun in general. More dancing, more museums, more random trips to parks and zoos, more rock and roll, more plays. Fewer repeat visits to the same bars and restaurants, more seeking out new destinations in new neighborhoods.
...Read more and smarter. Hello, brain, please wake up. The short-term includes Don Quixote, Pilgrim's Progress, Gulliver's Travels, and Pride and Prejudice - some rereads, some (embarrassingly) never read. I also have a nice stack of more contemporary literary options from Christmas and birthday. While I love blogs, I am thinking I won't be looking back at age 95, thinking "damn, reading dooce really enhanced my life".
...More than a year ago, in an effort to educate myself about film, I loaded up my Netflix queue with a lot of highly-acclaimed movies that I somehow am NEVER EVER in the mood to watch. I am going to WATCH my way through the queue, at least one a week, starting with the three I have sitting here (Stagecoach, Three Women, Spider).
...Dull but necessary life-maintenance stuff. GYMGYMGYM. Good eating and less drinking and all that. Getting out of debt (which means frugality, which means cooking more, staying out of cabs, etc.)
....And, I want to take more pictures.
