So I've been thinking about the Little Drummer Boy carol. It doesn't say anywhere that he was any good. Just that he "played his best."

Maybe this Christmas song isn't so syrupy sweet at all. I can't get the image out of my head of some horrible drummer banging away and scaring all the goats.

Well, the animals keep time for the drummer. So, I guess he does all right. There's nothing about animals running off or anything.

Exactly. My point is that the song implies that he was good. He coulda just banged on the drum once with his hand and been done with it.
