This week has been the first week of vacation for our family alone since 2007, which was pre-Coco. And we needed this week. We rented a two bedroom townhouse condo on the beach in St. Augustine, and we bought tons of yummy food to eat. Our goal was to stay out of the car for the week. We swam in the ocean, played in the sand, walked on the beach collecting seashells, jumped into three different pools and did lots of low key Duplo block building. We watched more television than we normally do (cable!). We've reconnected as a family and as a couple; we're relaxed. There's something calming and restorative about the ocean.
The kids are exhausted, and we'll have to catch up on their sleep when we get home. We've all got a little snot today. We have one more full day tomorrow. We check out Saturday morning, but my folks are renting a place one complex over for the weekend with my grandfather from Colorado. So they will watch the children while we clean up, pack the car and check out. We'll spend the day with them and head home sometime after lunch. I'm sad that the vacation is ending, but we're committed to doing this more often - even if it's just a long weekend now and then. Undoubtedly this is the best money we've spent on us in quite some time.
