Today is Joe's birthday, and my beloved is in Miami. The kiddos and I are home. It's a little sad. Even though we aren't overly sentimental or celebratory on birthdays, we do like to mark them together and play the birthday question game. Well, I like the game. I suspect my loved ones merely tolerate it

Aww- this sounds so much like how I feel on the topic. As an adoptee myself, I really feel called to adopt, but I want to wait until the girls are older... and my husband, on the other hand, is nervous about the idea, and would prefer biological children, and such. Honestly, I'd love to adopt teens or sibling sets, but I think he would have a difficult time with it. I'll pray for you guys, too, when I think to pray for us in that regard :)

Thanks. I will pray for you when I pray about adoption. I find myself thinking ridiculous, unfair things like how every healthy family should adopt children. Please pray for those self-righteous, crazy thoughts too.

I totally understand your safety concerns about adopting older kids. It's just a fact and I don't think it's bad to acknowledge it. Knowing what my former in-laws went through with the niece and nephew they adopted (repeated running away, repeated stealing from them and from strangers, fake pregnancies, on and on), it gives me a lot of pause about maybe adopting older kids in the future. Adoption is great, but I think you really have to consider all aspects of the situation.
