Screaming crying fussing- nothing calmed him down. He wasn't hurt, or in pain, hungry or even wet. Just fussy. When things finally settled down I was told to vaccum the area rug and then wash his bottles and spoons.(ok ( Read more... )

if I remember correctly you're babysitting for an Indian family. It is culturally acceptable for them to dock the pay of their hired help for whatever it is that they are dissatisfied with. Ask for a very specific list next time. They will probly have the attitude of "If you want full pay, don't fuck up."

Infants cry for no reason sometimes. The best think you can do is cover their basic needs and then do your best to either sooth them or tune them out.

Thanks for the cutural insight. That is not something I knew/remembered from school.

As to the baby - it was just what kicked off the day. I've had enough exposure to little ones to know that sometimes everything can be perfect and they are still bawling away at the top of their lungs just because......

My mum still jokes that every baby does this (once in a while) to keep the adults present on their toes.

Who knows -- she may be right!

Ok first of al I am sooooo sorry this happened to you. I would probably talk to them and tell them that you are upset about the situation, and very specifically why. I might leave out the part about how they are still using the groceries you got, as, though I get why it adds to your anger, I have a feeling it might come out sounding slightly petty to them. I would incorperate, if you can, what your friend said above about the cultural difference, but explain too where you are coming from. What I would probably shoot for is a comprimise of some kind where they pay you like half of what they didn't pay you. In any case, i would DEFINITELY make clear to them that in the future you expect a more detailed list. Also if there are tasks, such as vacuming, that you don't feel comfortable with, just say so- 'I'm a babbysitter, not a housekeeper' or something like that ( ... )
