well, it's been a pretty long absence, i know... i just really haven't had much to say. or, rather, i haven't felt there has been much point to put down in text the details of what has been occupying my life these past months. i never really look back on these journals, and doubt anything i say has much influence on anybody else, so whenever i've ( Read more... )

no advice -- i feel much like you about random LJ comments, and indeed, we don't know each other. even if we did, i'm not a person to offer advice (though i love brainstorming problems ( ... )

it would be something of a challenge not to be safe in syria. ;)

I hear you on the job frustrations. I won't offer advice, but I will say that when I get frustrated at a bad day at a job, I remind myself that it's just a job and its purpose is to get me the means to have a real life.

Love reading your entries, and (in times past) seeing your beautiful photographs. Take care, Daniel.

Don't feel obliged to respond to this, or even to leave it in your journal if you're so inclined (after all, as you said, I REALLY don't know you at all!). I rarely use the Internet these days, and so can't claim to have been an avid follower of your journal, so perhaps my observations are merely by chance. Regardless, they remain: You seem to mention your desire to have a relationship with a Syrian woman quite frequently, or at very least, with consistency. That's cool, I don't know you or your deal or anything of the sort... it just often, in passing, reminds me of the term "exotification", among a few others. I point it out because it seems surprising to me in the face of your manifesto(s)... but it is what it is. Just my $.02 (because I'd feel like a shithead if I didn't point it out/you hadn't considered it)!

someone had previously made this same judgment, and it is one of the reasons i rarely post here: people often jump to such conclusions without even making an attempt to understand. but since you brought it up in a respectful manner, i'll reply ( ... )

Makes sense to me (not that that matters!). Thanks for the reply (though I wouldn't particularly say I find anyone "exotic").

aw man, other arabs hating on the syrians, too. syria goina' get iraqified soon enough, then :(

i love reading your entries full of positive writings on syria. as someone who grew up rejecting my parents' culture and only knew how to do that by ragging on the backwardness and ignorance of syria and its people, it's a relief to know that i was mostly wrong. i can't ever let them know that though!

good luck with figuring out what to do in the future. i hope you find what you're looking for :-)
