Fairytale Drabbles

Blythe loved gymnastics.

She didn't love many things she did as a child. She didn't like avoiding friends, or studying hard for exams, or never going on vacations, or going to school sick, or staying permanently shut up inside the house. But she loved gymnastics. She poured her heart into gymnastics, and her love for the sport was repaid in kind with genuine talent.

She couldn't love gymnastics as a Heart. There was no Olympics to aim for, no competitions to win, no gold medals to treasure. There was rank and only rank. At least, her parents thought as much.

It doesn't matter what her parents think now.

She doesn't love gymnastics anymore. She thinks of it fondly, cherishes her memories of floor exercises, occasionally practices to keep in touch. But there are other things here.

She loves being a Heart. She loves being an Ace, now, of that Suit. She loves speaking with people and helping people and being important. She likes people listening to her like her thoughts count. She likes feeling safe and loved and she definitely likes having friends and dating and most of all, balls. Balls with beautiful dresses and decorations and waltzes and the people she loves so dearly.

She's done with gymnastics now, she realizes one day in her office. No matter how she practices from now on, she's done with gymnastics.

It doesn't surprise her that she's so okay with the idea.
