Ryan contracted HFMD today (as assessed by the doctor). The thing is, we have to cancel our trip to Hong Kong scheduled to leave this Sunday (5 - 11 Aug)!
Our CX tix are already paid for and collected, the hotels are already booked!
It started yesterday at 10 plus in the morning with the kindergarten calling us to send him back as he looked tired and sleepy with a fever of 38.6. And what coincidence! Yesterday was significantly my first day of part-time work (22 hrs week) as a SFE co-ordinator at a family service centre near my home! So have to get helper to bring him back and gave him paracetomol and monitor him until I got back at 5 plus. Normally, we would just continue to administer fever med on our end. But since we are going to Hong Kong this Sun, plus the fact that the kindergarten had issued 2 circulars to inform of several cases of HFMD there, we thought we better played safe and let him be checked by the doctor though there's no ulcers or spots on his hands and mouth. True enough, since there're no symptoms, GP could only prescribe the flu medication with anti-biotics on stand by (as his throat was slightly red). We also stocked up other medication on stand by as we told the doctor of our pending trip. We were hoping that it's just a mild case of flu since his fever broke early before daybreak.
But when he woke up later in the morning, he cried and complained of pain in the throat, and his fever did shoot up slightly. We got helper to adminsiter the antibiotics and fever meds as we left the house. Later again in the morning, Ryan called me to inform of tiny red dots in his lower lip. He sounded normal and didn't feel pain though. So after calling GP for advise, had to send Ryan back for him to diagnose. Mild case of HFMD according to the doctor as the only symptoms are the red dots on his lips and an ulcer in his throat. Was given MC for school for 7 days till the 8th - which means no traveling, no Hong Kong! I was still clinging on to the word 'mild' and questioned the doctor if he's OK by Sun, can still travel right? GP grudgingly said 'y..e..s..' with a long pause but added quickly that it would take at least 4 - 5 days to ride it out. So bye bye to our Hong Kong trip!
*BIG SIGH* ... no choice lah .. Not meant to be means not meant to be! No doubt this trip which is meant for Ryan to go Disneyland and Ocean Park is long overdue and much anticipated, but if Ryan will to go and feel miserable instead of having fun, then what's the point? Not to mention I took great pains to plan and already paid more in getting the confirmation esp for return dates of our choice as strangely most were fully booked. Now we have to pay admin and surcharges to the airline to postpone the dates after all the hassle of planning leaves and so on ... Damn sian!
Ryan has been whining and crying as the ulcers in his throat is apparently causing him a lot of pain whenever he swallows, any advice?
