JaeJoong’s story,
The past.
Laughing and with a happy feeling he waved at his friend Choikang who was waiting for him. He had studied far away from home, trying to become a worthy successor for his father. His father wanted that he, as the only son of the Kim household took his rightful place as heir and the head of his family when his father would be too old to do everything for himself. JaeJoong did not mind it at all that he was the only person who could take this responsible, he had known from the beginning, when he was still a young boy, what his place was in this world and that he was more important than any other person in his town. His father had learned him that there were some people who were made to follow and that there were some people who were made to rule, and the rich people with enough money were those who would rule everything. And of course his father was rich and so was he. For JaeJoong was it normal to be better than other people and he found it a honor to be the next head of the family! “You’re back!” Laughed Choikang and lifted his bag into the carriage that was waiting for him. The carriage was from his father and his family weapon was painted on it, showing everyone that his father was rich enough to effort himself and his family all those important stuff. “How was it at home?” JaeJoong saw that his nephew had become taller since he had saw the boy for the last time, almost a year ago and he knew that his nephew would be a wise man, he hadn’t studied far away from home like JaeJoong, but he was smart and would become a good and wise man.
“You father is searching for a good wedding candidate for you sister and there are a lot young men around who are asking for her hand, but you father still hasn’t made his choice, he is selecting all the men very careful. Choikang spoke while he guided the horses to walk home. JaeJoong saw that his nephew was right, nothing had changed and he was not surprised about that, he saw the same people walking on the streets, the same poor people, begging for some food and the same wealthy men with their wives, nothing had changed here and JaeJoong knew that the people here liked it that way. JaeJoong nodded at a few people he recognized and smiled even at a few young girls who were walking besides their older brothers. The girls started giggling almost immediately when they saw that they had the attention from a important men like JaeJoong. “How is my mother doing? Is she well?” JaeJoong looked thoughtfully ahead and thought about his family who he had missed and hadn’t seen since he had left his house. “Everybody is happy at home and waiting for you to return” answered Choikang still smiling and after a few minutes they were almost home. JaeJoong looked excitedly at the plantation his family owned and realized how much he had missed his home.
Choikang stopped the carriage in front of the house but before the two man could leave the carriage they saw how the front door slammed open and how a beautiful young woman ran outside, followed by her mother. “Behave yourself Jinhee” called his mother and tried to stop the young woman before she could made a fool of herself. JaeJoong laughed when he saw his sister and ignored the warning look from his mother and closed his arms around the small body from Jinhee in a warm hug. JaeJoong’s smile widened when he looked at his sister and kissed her on her cheek. Jinhee was dressed in a long, green dress, decorated with a sweet flower pattern, her long, black hair hung loosely on her back and her dark brown eyes where sparkling with delight now that JaeJoong was back home. “I’ve missed you” smiled JaeJoong and tugged a lock of hair behind her ear. Next, he looked at his mother and JaeJoong’s smile disappeared and made place for a worried frown, his mother had aged a lot and it worried JaeJoong to see her this way, with gray hair and wrinkled face. “Mother, how are you feeling?” JaeJoong kissed his mother on her cheek and looked around him, wondering where his father was. “I’m doing fine” answered his mother and guided her children and nephew inside the house. “You father is not home right now, I’m expecting him home before nightfall” his mother called for their servants and ordered them to take JaeJoong’s bags out of the carriage.
A few hours passed and Choikang had left his house, his own family expected him home for dinner, just as JaeJoong’s family expected JaeJoong’s father home for dinner, but his father didn’t came home that evening and he and his family started to worry. A few minutes before midnight when his father still wasn’t home he promised his mother and sister to search for his father. He called a few servants to escort him and he drove with his favorite horse into the night but he didn’t found his father. He searched everywhere and had even asked a few people he passed if they had saw his father, but again, nobody had seen him. At twilight he returned home, hoping that his father would be back home and that he had worried the whole night for nothing. But when he was almost at the plantation he stopped his horse and looked worried up at the sky above him, that was glowing like… Like there was something on fire! Something was on fire exactly where his home was! ”NO!” screamed JaeJoong and forced his horse to run faster. “Mother, Sister!” Screamed JaeJoong to nobody in particular and couldn’t believe that this was real, that this was happening to him and his family!
His worst fears became real, a few seconds before he could see his home through the trees that were planted all around his house. He saw that the sky was red from the flames that were now burning the trees around the house. He heard the shouting voices from men and saw when he was close enough that a few servants were death, they were lying with their faces down on the ground, covered with their own blood. End then he saw it, his father sat with his back against a wall who hadn’t burned yet, his face was pale and blood dripped down against his chest. JaeJoong looked closer and saw in his panic that his father was deathly injured, he was shot besides his heart! JaeJoong screamed again and ran to his father, ignoring all the people who were plundering his home, stealing all the money his family owned and grabbed his father by his arm. “Father! Father! What happened? What do I need to do?” JaeJoong screamed hysterical at his father while he grabbed his father by his arm. ”JaeJoong… flee while you still can… You have nothing left here… Safe yourself…” And after his father had said those words he… he died. For a few seconds he sat still, staring at his father’s death face and started to run, but not the way his father had wanted him to go. He ran inside the house, calling for his mother and sister, but nobody answered him. The men who had plundered and burned his house were no longer inside, afraid to burn alive so nobody stopped him. He opened the bedroom door from his sister and… He saw her, lying on her back, her white nightgown red from the blood, she had scratches on her arms, legs… And when he looked closer he saw that his sister was raped. “No, no, no…” cried JaeJoong and fell to his knees. “This is not true, I’m dreaming…” JaeJoong shook his sisters body, who was still warm and called her name, “Jinhee! Jinhee! Wake up!” But she didn’t waked up, she stayed still in his arms and then he saw it, her face was wet from the tears. When he saw how hard she must have cried he knew that she was in a lot of pain before she had died!
He let out a anguished cry and forced himself to stand up and search for his mother, but deep inside he knew that she was death, just like his sister, his lovely, sweet little sister… He opened the next door and saw to his horror that the whole room was on fire, and his mother’s death body was almost unrecognizable burned in the blaze. JaeJoong needed to support himself against the wall that was black from the smoke and the burning fire and he realized it at that moment, he knew that he was alone, his family was death and all the money his family owned was stolen. He had nothing left to live for, he didn’t wanted to live without his family and his little sister… Life had no longer any meaning left for him! As in a daze he left the house, not knowing how he had survived it and fell to the ground, he closed his eyes and could only think about one thing, he wished that he was with his family, far away from all the pain and his cruel life. A few thieves walked past him, but gave him no attention, in their eyes he was just another dying men who didn’t matter. The thieves only cared about the money they had stolen and were thinking about their escapes.
A few days later he woke up in a strange room he didn’t recognized and he heard people whispering he didn’t knew. He tried to sit up but stopped when he realized that his whole body was covered with burns. ”He is awake” said a soft voice and a few seconds later he saw a woman who was maybe four or five years younger than his mother was. The woman smiled at him and tried to give him something to eat. But JaeJoong tried to move away from the woman and stared horrified at her, “Where am i? And my family…” “They are all death” said the woman simply. “My two sons have found you and brought you here, you were almost death when I saw you at that house. And don’t try to go back there, there is nothing left for you young man, nothing besides the death and pain…” The woman spoke further but JaeJoong didn’t listened to her and stared as in a daze ahead. “Why have you brought me here, why haven’t you left me there?” Whispered JaeJoong and interrupted the woman. The women looked surprised at him and clearly didn’t understand him, “to save you, young man! You would have died out there, alone and so close to that burning house!” JaeJoong closed his eyes and tried to hold his tears back, ashamed that the woman saw him this way. “I wanted to die, I want to be with my family” said JaeJoong with a hoarse voice.
The next few days where difficult for JaeJoong, he was thankful for the hospitality and the good care from the people who were helping him, but this was not what he wanted, he knew that he had lost everything and he had no place to return to. He had asked the women who took care of him where his nephew was, Choikang but she didn’t know it. Later he received the news that his nephew, his uncle and all the others were also death, his nephew had never returned home when he had left JaeJoong’s house. Choikang’s house was not burned down like JaeJoong’s, but all the valuables were gone. The woman also told JaeJoong that his family were not the only victims, in another town the same thing had happened. JaeJoong did not understand why this family was helping him, they had not much money and they didn’t asked him nothing in return for their help! The people who were always forgotten and not important to him, were now helping him! “Why are you helping me? My family have you never helped…”JaeJoong looked confused up at the woman and tried to sit up, what resulted in a new wave of pain. “Don’t force yourself to sit up” spoke the elderly woman and pushed him gentle back to the bed. “You’re asking me why my family is helping you?” The woman looked suddenly sympathetically at him. “We poor people are trying to help each other if we can, and you are now poor, young man. When you’re recovered you need to search for a job and a place to live.”
JaeJoong widened his eyes when it began to dawn on him what the woman had said, those cruel words… He was poor, just like all the people he had looked down on. The woman sensed that he was confused and emotional and she knew that he wanted to be alone now, but she also knew that this was not the time to sit still and pity yourself. Her face hardened and she stood up. “Don’t think any longer about your family, they are death and you will see them never again. Recover and become strong again and when you have time I assume that you do not forget who have helped you when you needed help.” The woman looked one last time at JaeJoong and left the room, not knowing that this would be the last time she had ever seen the young man. When the door had closed behind the woman he stared with tears in his eyes at the door and swallowed. He knew that he could never forget his family and he realized that he didn’t wanted to live like a normal person, to work with his hands and to own nothing for himself. This was not a life for him, he was the family heir from the Kim household and not a simple, poor person! He was born to live a good life, and not to live like… like… JaeJoong clenched his fists and forced himself to leave the bed and to leave the house. Nobody had watched him because nobody thought that he would be capable to walk so he was able to leave the house without notice from the family who had tried to save him.
He felt weak and his whole body was hurting, but he walked. He didn’t know where he wanted to go, he only knew that he needed to leave, he needed to leave this place, the people who were living here, all the memories he had here. His wounds started bleeding and the pain was almost maddening, but he walked till he fell to the ground, a few feet away from a fast flowing river, just a few minutes outside the village he had lived in. He stared desperately at the river and he started to cry, he cried for his death family but also because he had lost everything! He knew that this life had no meaning anymore for him and he realized that there was a simply way out for him, if he would end his life then all the pain and the loss would be over. Nobody would miss him if he died and nobody would care if he was gone. Yes, he had made a decision, he would end his life, here and now! He stopped with crying now that he knew what he needed to do and tried to stand up, but he fell immediately back to the ground when his exhausted body was no longer capable to support him and he started to crawl. He crawled over the cold and hard ground until his hands started to bleed, but he didn’t feel any pain now that he knew that this would all be over in a few minutes. JaeJoong didn’t know how it would feel to die and if it would take long before he was death. He also didn’t know that drowning death was one of the worst ways to die. But at that moment, even if he had known that it would be very painful and difficult for him, then he had done it anyway, simply because he underestimated everything and he really wanted to end it all. But he didn’t thought clearly and if he had waited a few minutes and had tried to calm down, then had he maybe made a other decision.
But JaeJoong didn’t wait a few minutes and certainly didn’t wanted to calm down and he asked God for forgiveness and prayed for the souls from his death family members and also for his own soul before he let himself roll into the river.
The first thing JaeJoong noted was the cold. The water in the river was so cold that his whole body started to shake and shiver. The flow from the river grabbed his weak body and slammed him against a few rocks that were hiding under the surface. JaeJoong screamed and swallowed a mouth full of water, and then, at that moment, he realized that he had made a fault, he was not ready to die, he didn’t want to die… He was afraid to die… His body slammed against a cold rock again and he heard a breaking sound, followed by a overwhelming pain in his right arm. His feet stuck a few seconds later behind a branch underwater and his head disappeared underwater. JaeJoong opened his mouth, not thinking clear and ignoring the fact that he was still underwater with his head and swallowed a mouth full of water. His eyes widened in total panic and he started to struggle with his now totally exhausted body. He did not know how he did it, but his foot broke free and his head appeared on the surface. He took a quick breath but had no time to steady himself because another wave of water pushed his head underwater. His hands touched a smaller rock and he grabbed it with all the strength he still had in is body but his fingers slipped of the wet stone and his head disappeared underwater again. He struggled to get his head on the surface and when he took a new breath of air he screamed, as hard as he could, “Please! Help me! I don’t want to die!” JaeJoong didn’t know if anybody could hear him and if somebody was willing to risk his or her own life to safe him.
Suddenly he felt a pair of hands on his shoulders, the hands were cold but strong and seemed to appear from nowhere. The hands grabbed him by his collar and pulled his head out of the water with a enormous and inhuman force. In the next moment happened a lot. The person who had grabbed him had slammed his limp body over his shoulder and dragged him, swimming to the riverside. JaeJoong blinked with his eyes and tried to see who was saving him with so much force and speed but was simply too weak. He noted vaguely that the person who had saved him was a male and that he was moving through the water with a speed JaeJoong had never thought was possible. A few times his body slammed against a rock when the person who was dragging him didn’t pay too much attention to his still weakening body and he closed his eyes, hoping that if he could shut everything out the pain and fear would be all over soon. But it was not so easy to shoot everything out and he was aware of everything what was happening with him. He heard how the man who was carrying him cursed a few times while he swam and he was aware of another strange thing, it seemed that the man was not breathing… But what next happened JaeJoong didn’t know, a wave of water rolled over his head and everything turned black before his eyes…
”Wake up and listen to me, I will ask you this question only once” said a mysterious voice besides him. JaeJoong was tired and found it difficult to open his eyes, but he nodded to the person who had saved him, showing him that he was listening to what the person wanted to way. ”You are dying, you’re in shock now and that is the reason why you did not feel it that you have arterial bleeding, caused by a sharp rock you have slammed against in the river. ”You have a few minutes to live so I’m going to ask you this question. Do you want me to save you? But before you answer me you need to know that there will be no way back, if I’m going to save you then your whole life would chance and you will never be the same again. You will life a half life, a cursed life, but you will live”” said the person with a serious voice. JaeJoong tried to open his eyes, scared for what he just had heard and lifted with a lot of trouble his trembling hand and held the bleeding wound and knew that that person had told the truth. He did not know much about medicine but he knew enough to know that his life was in danger. And he was not sure how that person wanted to save him, but he wanted to accept it. He was not afraid for the things the stranger had said to him, simply because he had already lost everything he could have lost in his life! JaeJoong didn’t understand what the person had meant when he had told JaeJoong that he would live a half life, a cursed life. JaeJoong had always believed that only a thief or a murderer would be cursed and send to hell, but he had not lived a bad life and he had never thought about the question what would happen after the death. Heaven or Hell, that were the only options but he had never thought about a cursed life.
And because he didn’t know what would happen exactly and he didn’t care about his life anymore and if he would be cured or not, he nodded. “Please, safe me” begged JaeJoong. He was not sure what he exactly wanted, he didn’t wanted to die, but he also had nothing left to life for, but he was sure about one thing, he was afraid to die and afraid for the pain. JaeJoong tried to open his eyes so that he could see the man who had saved him but his head felt too heavy and his whole body was… limp. “What are you going to do…” JaeJoong wanted to ask more but a hand that covered his mouth stopped him. “Try not to scream and don’t be afraid, I never break my promise and I will save you.” JaeJoong listened but didn’t understand what the person had meant. He had his eyes still closed but the person who had saved him hovered above him and touched his neck and he placed his ear against his chest, apparently listening to JaeJoong’s heartbeat. ”You heartbeat is weak” said the mysterious man thoughtfully “I need to do this quick.”
A cold hand covered his mouth and next… He felt as if the man was touching him with his… mouth! “What are you doing?” JaeJoong tried to open his eyes so that he could see what was happening but he was now even weaker than a few minutes before and was not able to do it. The man ignored his question and stayed silent, deep in thought about his next move and where he could bite JaeJoong. JaeJoong lifted his left hand weakly, trying to feel his wound and wondered how the man could safe him. But before his fingertips could touch his wound he felt a sharp pain in his neck! The pain was making him creasy and if the hand from the man was not covering his mouth he would have screamed so hard that everybody who was around could hear him! But there was nobody around and the hand smothered all his screams. The next moment he felt another pain, but this time in his chest! It was as if.. as if that man was stabbing him with a knife! Right beside his heart! What next happened was fussy but the pain seemed to disappear exactly at the moment that something cold and hard was touching the entrails of his chest and… He lost his consciousness. What JaeJoong didn’t know was that the person now looked at him with a strange color in his eyes, his eyes where deep orange and he had stopped JaeJoong’s heartbeat with his own hands. He had broken all JaeJoong’s ribs and had murdered his weakened body.
The person, who was a vampire knew that he needed to act quickly now and dripped some of his own blood over JaeJoong’s death, but still warm heart. And exactly at the moment that the blood from the vampire touched his heart his whole body started to come alive again. All his wounds started to heal and even the broken rips were growing back together! JaeJoong’s eyes opened in total shock and a bloodcurdling scream echoed around. The vampire who had saved him did no longer do anything to prevent JaeJoong from screaming, nobody could stop him now that he had awakened JaeJoong again, but now as a newborn vampire. The older vampire waited a few hours until JaeJoong finally stopped with screaming and lay still. The vampire waited patiently for JaeJoong to open his eyes so that the vampire could see what JaeJoong’s real color was. Every vampire had an own color and the older vampire was curious about the newborn vampire because the color in the eyes from a vampire was telling in the vampire would be good or evil. If a vampire had black, gray or red eyes, then the vampire would be a murderer and could never control their thirst. If a newborn vampire had a bad eye color the best thing you could do was kill him or her when the newborn was still weak. But if the newborn vampire had a good eye color nothing bad would happen. A eye color was even telling more about a vampire’s personality than you could describe in any words.
Slowly JaeJoong awakened and the first thing he wanted to do was breathing, but nothing happened! He started to panic and tried to breath, but again, nothing happened! “Don’t try to breathe, it is impossible and you don’t need it anymore from now on. Open your eyes and tell me your name.” JaeJoong did what the vampire wanted and opened his eyes, showing his bright green and friendly eyes. “My name is Kim JaeJoong” he said with a scared voice. The vampire grinned when he saw that he had succeeded and that JaeJoong had a really good eye color. “welcome, Kim JaeJoong. I am you teacher from now on and you need to stay close to me. It is important for you to do everything I’m telling you because you would die without me while you’re still a newborn.” JaeJoong frowned and looked confused up at the man. “What do you mean?” And then he saw the orange eyes from the vampire and he remembered what had happened. “W- What happened and… What are you?” The man laughed now really hard but he had a friendly look in his orange eyes. “I’m a vampire boy, and you are now my apprentice, you are a newborn vampire.”
