Yufu Sekka @ UTAU Wiki |
UTAU informationAGE: Canon age is 17. I’m aging her down to 15 so that she can just be entering high school.
GENDER: Fermale
YEAR IN SCHOOL: 10 (HS, 1st Year)
ENROLLMENT: Scholarship Money
APPEARANCE:
Yufu SekkaYufu is rather short, standing at 4’11”. She has long, silver hair, which is usually kept in a braid that reaches to the bottom of her waist. In the winter, she wears her heavy coat as much as she possibly can, but as she overheats fairly easily, in the summer times she tries to get away with wearing light clothing. Her eyes are gray.
PERSONALITY:
Yufu is extremely quiet. Sure, she talks, but she prefers not to if she doesn't have to. When she does talk, however, her voice is extremely quiet and soft, and one really has to listen hard to hear what she has to say. Her inflection is fairly limited; thus, when she does talk, she has a tendency not to show too much emotion in her voice. In other words? She's fairly monotone. Vocal inflection tends to show more when she’s feeling extreme emotion of any kind, but in general, she sounds fairly monotone when speaking, usually due to how quiet she is.
Yufu is a fairly simple girl, for the most part. More often than not, one will find her staring into space, and appearing overall ... well, uh, spacey. If something makes her happy, she will smile, and even giggle or laugh if whatever it is is particularly amusing. If something makes her sad, she will appear more down than normal, and, in the worst case scenario (like a death in the family or of somebody she knows ... horrible things of that nature and other particularly awful news), lock herself in her room until she absolutely has to come out (whether it be for food or for class, though if things get really bad, she won’t even come out of her room for that much and may need somebody to make sure she's alive).
She scarcely, if ever, is angry; if she ever is, it's in the form of utterly silent loathing, glares, and internal curses. Her anger triggers are far and few between as a result; Yufu doesn't like cheating, lying, or using people for the benefit of the user. She doesn't see any reason to cheat or lie when she's perfectly capable of doing things for herself, and the mentality she has regarding that and other people is that if she can do things for herself, then anybody else can do it as well. As for using people, she thinks the very thought of it is despicable. Even if anything like this makes her angry enough, however, Yufu dislikes confrontation, and if she is angry enough to confront someone, it’s a very rare and unusual side to see. Whatever the case, though, she will not engage in physical fighting. Yufu has no fighting experience whatsoever, and she knows she’s not a fighter by any means. Should she confront anybody on a subject matter that angers her, she'll only talk to them in an icy, stern tone of voice, and will be rather blunt. That said, Yufu is usually relatively peaceful, and will only resort to that once she can't contain her emotions on the matter anymore. As said before, it doesn't happen often. The girl has a boatload of patience.
Yufu gets flustered easily. Subject matters of the romantic or otherwise embarrassing nature (like, for example, being called on in class when she didn't raise her hand ... yeah) will cause her to blush. She doesn't run away from the situation often, but it's pretty common to see her face heat up to a brilliant shade of red and for her to clam up when she's put on the spot or asked to answer to something romance related.
Yufu is still fairly innocent and naive when it comes to a lot of things. She's booksmart, but even despite touring and making some very good friends while touring, she lacks a lot of personal experience with things. She often put most of her focus into her piano lessons and singing, and didn't make a lot of time for going out with friends (though it did happen on occasion). Yufu has never had a romantic relationship in her life, and has no idea what she would do if she ever found herself in one though she's close enough with Sayu that some have considered the two to be romantically involved on more than one occasion. Yufu would like to make no commentary on that.. She takes a while to understand some jokes and references as well, due to her naivete.
Yufu isn't shy, per se ... but the fact that she is as quiet as she is makes it difficult for her to make friends. She has a few very good ones, one of them in particular being her best friend, and with aforementioned best friend, while they do talk amongst themselves quiet a bit, the two of them have a very good silent understanding of each other and sometimes don’t even need to. This doesn’t really apply to many, if any, of her other friends, however.
On the surface Yufu may seem unfriendly or difficult to approach due to how soft and quiet she is, but in reality, she’s a pretty lonely girl when she's tossed into a completely different environment. She does want friends. She just doesn’t really know how to go about being proactive at making them. Her best bet at making friends is usually through her talents at piano, singing, and songwriting, but even that seems to be a toss up.
COMPUTER APTITUDE: Moderate. Not too advanced, but she knows enough to get by and do her schoolwork and putz around on the internet a little.
AU HISTORY: Yufu was born into a middle-class family in Hokkaido, Japan. While her family wasn’t the wealthiest, they were a happy family, and the first few years of Yufu’s life were relatively peaceful. As Yufu grew up, though, two things were discovered pretty quickly:
1. She loved the wintertime. She loved the snow. The snow was her absolute most favorite thing in the world. And her other most favorite thing in the world?
2. Yufu loved the piano.
Seeing that their daughter liked the piano from a young age (six years, in fact), her parents decided to hire a piano teacher to teach her how to play the thing that so fascinated her a couple times a week. Yufu was thrilled to have the lessons, and eagerly followed along with her lessons, and continued to practice. Within the next several years, she became better and better at what she did. When she was just entering middle school, her piano teacher suggested that they put Yufu into various competitions for the piano to see how well she matched up against other competitors. And so, with permission from Yufu and her parents both to do so, Yufu competed.
In her first competition, she didn’t place. But seeing how good her competition was only heightened her love for the piano, and made her more determined to become better. She practiced so much that by the time she entered her second competition, she walked out of there with a second place prize. From then on, whenever she entered a competition, she received either first or second place. Along with some of those first and second place prizes came prize money, which was put away for school.
During middle school, Yufu also discovered she had a talent for singing and songwriting. She would occasionally become bored with practicing typical exercises and solo pieces for competition, and start creating her own songs, and then creating her own lyrics. Her first few songs were unimpressive, but with time and experience, they became better.
It was a hobby. One that she enjoyed. And, for a while, it remained a hobby. One day, though, as her family was visiting her grandmother, her grandmother requested to hear her granddaughter play the piano. Yufu decided to play one of her own songs,
Summer Snow, for her. It was then that her parents realized that their daughter was much more talented than they had thought, and they started talking to her piano teacher about possibly getting her into something that could show off her original songs. Her teacher had connections to a rotation group that had started the year before, UTAU, which featured a lot of singers and instrumentalists and allowed them to perform on stage for a year before going back to their normal lives. The subject came up with Yufu, and at first, Yufu was fairly adamant about not joining. Her teacher convinced her to come with her and meet the people in charge, and some of the recruits for the new year.
It was as she was meeting the people in charge that she found the reason she wanted to go into UTAU; it wasn’t because she wanted to perform her original music. No, it was because she had found the girl who would become her best friend on that day. A little chinese girl named Sayu, one of the new recruits for the year, had come up to her at some point, introduced herself, and started talking to her. Yufu, though quiet, had found it easy to converse with Sayu, and instantly had grown fond of her. And so, she joined UTAU so that she could spend more time with her. She even wrote a song for her best friend to perform, and the two would often sing duets together during their time touring.
The year ended quickly, however, and Yufu had to return to Japan, while Sayu returned to China. The two of them were sad to be apart, but they promised to keep in touch as much as they could. After returning home, Yufu fell into a little bit of a depression from how much she missed her UTAU family, and Sayu most of all. Her parents, however, took this to mean that she missed touring and traveling, and started thinking about potentially sending Yufu to an elite school outside of Japan, where she’d be in a place that is fairly different, but still get an education.
It wasn’t even a week later that Yufu learned that she would be starting high school in Reims Academy.
SAMPLES
INTRANET/1ST PERSON SAMPLE:
I’m thinking of joining a club. Mama and Papa suggested I should join one to get to know people.
I think I would be best in something music-related, but I don’t know yet. I can’t fight, but if I could, I would join Wushu … Sayu taught me a little bit of tai chi. I guess I could always join music appreciation, though. Or Glee Club … but that requires an audition, right? I guess I could always make an instrumentalist’s club. I’m not much of a leader, though ...
… would anybody be willing to lead a club for instrumentalists?
LOG/3RD PERSON SAMPLE:
Yufu considered herself to be a good student. Despite this, however, there were still days where she would find herself drifting off and daydreaming every so often, or writing lyrics onto the paper in front of her instead of the notes she should have been taking.
Today was one of those days.
Math wasn’t exactly her best subject, and while she tried to pay attention so that she could know how to do the equations, her attention span wasn’t working with her today. Instead, she was resting her head on one fist, the other hand casually writing down lyrics to a song she had been working on.
Yufu couldn’t help but let out a quiet breath as she set her pencil down and glanced up at the blackboard, switching to her other notebook and taking down those notes as a precaution. She would ask for some extra help later. For now, she would just write down the notes.
She switched back to her lyrics notebook and stared at the words she had written. Sayu would like this, she thought to herself, closing her eyes and trying to imagine exactly what her reaction would be if she were able to read this right now.
”The lyrics are a little strange, but I think you get the point across pretty well!” That’s how it would start. And then she would smile sheepishly and take her lyrics back, looking them over again.
”Maybe we can sing it together,” She would suggest. And Sayu would beam happily, nod enthusiastically, and take a seat next to her.
”We should!”
And they would.
“Miss Yufu!”
Yufu snapped back to attention, eyes wide and blush rising to her cheeks.
“This is important, so please pay attention? I don’t want to have to tell you again,” her teacher chastised, tapping a ruler against his palm. Yufu nodded and sank back down into her seat, face burning from being called out like that. She tried to keep her mind from wandering more after that. She didn’t want another warning.
