I get so confused and irritated with fashion. I'd like to look good and not like I stepped out of the 80's or 90's, but the standards keep changing so fast and I really REALLY hate buying crap over and over ( Read more... )

Pfff... you should wear the shoes you choose.

(But, ah, note that I am not and have never been fashionable, and have been frequently known to wear SOCKS with my sandals.)

apparently, socks with sandals is in in France.... the thin, useless socks, though, that only goes a little over the ankle. I don't like THAT either!

Um, wear what you want? Fashion is utter bullshit pretty much designed to keep people on an ever-speeding treadmill of consumption fueled by dissatisfaction.

Wearing what you want is harder when fashion is like, nuh-uh, shitty shoes and ugly clothes this season!!! but then you just have to wait and when you do find something you like, buy enough to last you a while.

Thirding the whole "wear what you want" comment. Fashion is overrated, you'll look a lot better when you're actually comfortable in your clothes as you automatically carry yourself better.

Then again, I've never been fashionable either, I just walk around in whatever's on top of my drawer >.>

I find that the stuff I like usually comes back in style in a year or two anyway. So I just tend to buy what I like and only pay attention to trends if I like them.

Stock up some basic classic pieces to create a "uniform", ignore what the fashion victims are wearing and then make the rest up yourself!

But I do hear you on not being able to find the shoes you want. I reeeally wanted a pair of Mary Janes once but they were just wavering out of style and it was impossible to find a nice plain one in town. Where do I find it? In a little nowhere town where the latest fashion hasn't arrived in yet.
