Thank you for posting this! My parents are in a safe zone, but my uncles are in Zone B, pretty much right next to the Zone A part of Jamaica Bay. They are no stranger to flooding - their little wooden home on a canal off the Bay has been flooded so many times that there's a whole series of water marks on the side of the house with small years written next to them, and the major appliances are all up on blocks that are above all but a few of those marks. (My one uncle is a skilled carpenter and has rebuilt the underside of the house several times, which is how it has managed to not fall into the canal like some of their neighbor's places.) The uncles will surely be resistant to leaving their house even if the need truly arises, so I can pass this info along to my mother so that she can slowly wear them down and get them to stay by her until the storm passes :) She grew up in that same house, so they might listen to her!

Thanks we're in zone A. We will be leaving.
Got cash, gas, water, brisket, and ice cream (wait, that might have to be eaten first).

Also we have sandbags and stuff to put things off the floor at home before we leave. We'll have a full day of preparing the house tomorrow. Fun!

Oh good, because you were the friends I was most worried about. Nearly directed a comment at you and everything (okay, there was a list of LJ friends who were gonna get pointed comments), as if you weren't Responsible Adults and all. *hugs*

Because, yanno, I worry.

And then I tried to tell my brother it would be a bad idea to use his bicycle as primary transportation this weekend. *headdesk* Though, it might be more reliable than the MTA...

thank you for the info.
I find that my family is grossly unprepared!

Hope all worked out well for you and your family! You were in Zone B, right? Did you decide to evac?

(Maybe I should check my friends page to see if you've already written about it...)
