Characterization

I finally got the idea for my next short story for Long Ridge, but I've been frustrated because I couldn't get a clear idea of Emily, my main character. Normally, that's the key to my writing--getting to know the main character, and then letting the story go where she directs it. I don't outline plots... Have you ever tried interviewing your characters? Have a list of questions and facts and just run through them with whomever you are writing about. You'll be fascinated by how much of a background they'll give you...and it gives them that much more dimension when you're writing about them.

I dunno, that's how I get to know a lot of mine and it works pretty well. A little on the creepy side, but yeah.
