When only 2 persent of 12th graders can correctly identfy why Brown vs. the Board of Education was important, I throw my FUCKING hands up. That decision helped me become who I am today. If I wasn't so MAD, I would be in tears.

I bet everyone of them could tell you all about Snooki and slutard behavior:

Just for the hell of it, I ran the 22 multiple choice questions from the site that were identified on various tests over the years as "hard", and got 20/22, but then I have a degree in North American history and am a history nerd, so. :)

I could not agree w/ you more. I'm almost 50 and I'm always surprised at how little some folks know, who are younger than me, about history.

I have felt that, for some time now, common knowledge and common sense are on the decline. Younger individuals with internet-capable smart phones are probably more likely to Google some random celebrity scandal than additional information on a figure from History or English.

And it isn't just teenagers/students. I'm almost 30, married, with 2 children. My coworkers, some older than me, don't follow my conversation points half the time. My vocabulary confuses them from time to time. I was looking up Raphael in my Wikipedia app; they don't understand how I live without Facebook.

Parents who don't feel the need to continually educate themselves perpetuate the notion that learning ends with school.

I sometimes fear for the future of society.
