The Doctor is all about The Choice

The Doctor has always been about giving people/aliens a choice. Either choose the easy way and survive or choose the hard way and pay the Doctor's consequences. From day one with the Sycorax he has shown this to be a huge part of who he is. He always gives you a choice but never second chances. "No second chances. I'm that sort of man."

Even though this has always been how he is, it seems to have become, among several others, a main theme of this series. He gave Miss Foster a Choice in 'Partners in Crime'. He gave the Rock monsters (sorry I can't remember their names) in 'Fires of Pompeii. Did he give Mr. Haplen a choice in 'Planet of the Ood? Can't remember but probably. And he gave the Sontarans a choice in 'The Poison Sky'.

So my point? I'm getting to it.

We all know Rose is coming back at the end of the series. I don't know the hows or the whys so please don't spoil me. But I think, we are going to see Rose given a choice. Either travel again with the Doctor or return to Pete's World.

Believe me the giant Doctor/Rose shipper in me hates to say it but I think Rose will choose to stay with her family. Otherwise why make such a huge deal out of 'The Choice'? I think that's the point we are supposed to see. Everyone the Doctor give the Choice to, chooses the hard way and they pay the consequences. And....oh god I hate saying this...I think the 'right' choice for Rose would be to stay with her family.

It seems, from the little scene of her at the end of 'Partners in Crime', and the quick glimpse we get of her on the TARDIS screen that she is searching for the Doctor. I don't think she's doing this because she simply wants to be reunited with him. I think she needs him. I think there is some threat to Pete's World and only the Doctor can save them. And, if this is indeed the case, it would seem to imply that Rose really has become 'The Defender of the Earth', just like the Doctor said. And if the Doctor taught her anything, it was that the Earth was worth defending and if she has the power to do it she should no matter the sacrifice to self.

So she will choose to stay on Pete's World and she will do the right thing. And the Doctor will respect and love her all the more for it.

No matter how much we may want it, the Doctor never gets a 'happily ever after'. Joss Whedon said it best when he said that, and I'm paraphrasing, 'When Buffy was happy, ratings went down. When Buffy was miserable, ratings when up.' It's true. If Rose stays with the Doctor and they are all fluff and bunnys and rainbows...*yawn* it would be a rather boring show. And then Rose would have to be torn from the Doctor's side once again to make it interesting once again. We DO NOT WANT!

So please, please, please, Mr. Davies, give them the reunion they deserve. And then give them the goodbye they deserve. Let them admit there love. Let them even share a kiss. But then let them separate with the knowledge that what they shared wasn't all in there heads. It wasn't all one sided. That they were special. There were the Stuff of Legend. Let them get closure and let them move on with there lives knowing that the other is safe and happy and everything is as it should be.

And before any Rose haters start bashing me, I'm not saying that they haven't gotten on with there lives already. Because they have. The Doctor is noticeably lighter this series and Rose is obviously doing there thing. This is just me, someone who adores Rose, saying what she wants to see happen when Mr. Davies inevitably rips my heart out once again.
