Holy Crap. Those three groups he put together are incredible. I need to track this down, how did group three sound?

They all sound remarkably consistent in their own way, probably due to the charts he made as well as the fact that they were recorded in the same studio. From the liner notes : "Each arrangement was created with two major factors taken into consideration: (1) the styles and techniques of the participating instrumentalists and (2) the structure and mood of the original compositions." Thus while different sounding, everything flows well. The songs are peppered throughout the album so its not like there is a block of Miles and Trane and then a block of Ben Webster. I found myself listening to it two ways: (a) as a whole album, which works just fine and is an enjoyable experience and (b) as individual sesssions, particularly listening for Trane and Webster, both of whom I am fans of their sound...
