"Akira, you haven't reported to me in some time."

"I didn't know that I was supposed to."

"Come now, don't be that way. What did you expect to achieve through this show of disobedience?"

"I … think you need to move on."

"What does that mean?"

"You're still here because you can't let go of the past, but you're dragging down the rest of them with you, too, just because you lost your one shot at happiness."

"You think you understand me, huh? Akira?"

"…"

There were so many things Akira wanted to say, but none of them would have any effect and he knew it. This person was beyond saving. At one point, he thought, perhaps it would have been possible to turn this person back towards the light, but by now this heart had been blackened and twisted -- too far gone to be recovered.

Fearing conflict, Akira agreed mutely with everything he said and gave an entirely false report about what the others were up to. He thought that he'd like to see Shuuki soon… An indulgent thought. Lastly, he thought that if anyone had to kill this man, it would have to be him.

The gates in front of the castle opened wide as if beckoning them all inside. The sounds of a merry party could be heard from inside even though everyone knew that the place hadn't been occupied in years. Ryousuke decided that being timid was a waste of time, charged forward, his hand holding Masaharu's and pulling the other boy along.

"E-excuse me, what do you think you're doing with that hand?"

"Well, nothing's going to happen if we just sit around here wondering what to do, right? Time's wasting! Let's go!" Ryousuke grinned, failing to notice Masaharu's shy discomfort and the red blush involuntarily creeping across his face.

Masaharu quickly pulled his hand from Ryousuke's grip, but shuffled behind the other boy, anyway. If there was a solution to their mystery inside this place, even if there were only more questions to be found, at least they'd go through it together.

A body was at the bottom of the well. A villager had come across it by accident while trying to pull up water and had alerted the authorities, but by the time the police had gotten there, the body was gone. Baffled, the villager insisted that it really had been there, but the officers were annoyed and unsympathetic, accusing the poor man of making the whole thing up.

This whole incident, however, did not escape the notice of Yukinari's contacts, who let him know right away since it was a strange occurrence that could very well have to do with the case. It was a good four days before Yukinari remembered to tell everyone else, though. An irritated Shuuki demanded to know how it was possible that Yukinari had forgotten something related to a murder case, but he had merely shrugged it off.

"Shuuki, Yukinari can't help it if he forgets about something. He has far more pressing things to deal with on his time, I'm sure," Natsume drawled, trying to suppress a yawn and failing. He peered at Yukinari through lidded, heavy eyes and Yukinari couldn't help but feel that, despite how sleepy Natsume (always) looked, there was just something about him -- a sort of faint flame behind his eyes that could very well burst to life at any moment -- that drew one's attention. He ought to blush, he thought, being so obviously stared at, but decided against it. Natsume always got so much more excited from being rejected by Yukinari, after all. The last thing that boy needed was love, and Yukinari was more than happy to comply and instead, when they were in bed, give him exactly what they both needed…

The morning of the latest murder, Chiaki couldn't sit still. The guy who'd died wasn't someone he was particularly close to, but he remembered seeing him in school sometimes and it was a shock to think that someone else in his life -- no matter how small a role they played -- was dead. When Natsume snuck in through the window that night, Chiaki couldn't muster up his usual amount of resistance and somewhat-feigned (not that he'd admit it, though) annoyance.

"Did something happen?"

Typical of Natsume not to be shaken by the news of another murder. Natsume only cared about things that directly affected him. This Natsume would gladly let some innocent people die while he sat here and clung to Chiaki affectionately. There was no way he'd ever understand what Chiaki felt now, so Chiaki's response was simple.

"No."

Some girls had managed to cram Lavi's shoe locker chock full of love letters and baked goods, which Kana quickly stole. "Don't you find it a bit annoying that they insist on making you these cookies and cakes and stuff… when you can cook better than any of them ever could?"

"If you think that, then why are you eating their stuff?"

"Better than you eating them." Kana shrugged. "Besides, if you eat them, they might get the wrong idea."

"Oh?"

"Yeah, like they might think you actually like them or something, and then they'd never leave you alone."

Lavi smiled serenely, as usual. "Good thing I have you here to explain all this female behavior to me, Kana." He didn't say that he thought it was impossible for the girls of their school to pay him any more attention than they were already.

"…I feel like that's an insult, but I'm not sure how."

"You're imagining things."

"No, I'm sure there's just a little bit of sourness to your voice today."

Lavi slid his arm around Kana's shoulder, pulled the other boy closer, and kissed him lightly on the top of his head. "You're imagining things, Kana." he said before walking towards the school entrance.

Blushing, Kana rubbed the top of his head gingerly. "…stupid prince."

The boat was moving along slowly, but the sun was shining and it was an almost too-perfect day. "Yuki, can't this boat go any faster?" Masaharu called from below deck.

Though the door was open and he was clearly audible, Yukinari pretended not to hear. Enjoying the atmosphere was easier when the boat went leisurely along. Laying on deck on top of a towel, his mind started to wander to many things…the schoolwork he hadn't started on, the way Natsume had looked last night, the last murder… There were a lot of puzzle pieces that didn't fit together at all, but this didn't seem to worry Yukinari in the least.

"What do you plan to do with the rest of your life?" one of the family heads had asked him once, exasperated.

"Enjoy it," had been Yukinari's heartfelt reply.

"Onii-chan, Shuuki has been hogging the shower!"

"Ani-ue, don't listen to Masaharu, he always lies to make me look bad!"

"Oh why don't you just shut up? You were in the shower for like two hours."

"I was just enjoying a nice soak! Someone with a lack of personal hygiene like you wouldn't know what that felt like, though."

"Why, you…"

Ah, his cute younger brothers were fighting again, that's what Natsume thought as he looked down at them fondly, almost not hearing what they were saying at all. There might have been a lot of crazy, horrible things going on in their world during this time, but these two would never change, right? Cute, stubborn little Shuuki and strong, earnest Masaharu. Paying no heed to their argument, Natsume scooped Shuuki and Masaharu into a big hug and nuzzled his cheeks against theirs. "My little brothers… Natsume-nii loves you both so dearly!" he sighed.

Sensing that their original plan -- to pit Natsume's affection for them against the other -- wasn't working, they now had to combine against their common enemy: brotherly affection. "Gross, nii-chan, what are you doing?"

"Ani-ue, I just took a bath and you smell!"

This only caused him to hug them to him tighter and he thought, smiling to himself, that he would like to stay with them forever, no matter what their protests.

"Why don't you just admit that the kendo team is better than the measly basketball team?"

"…" Masaharu responded to Ryousuke's taunt by giving him a swift kick to the shins, which sent the other boy doubling over in pain.

This was an endless argument, but neither of them were ever going to back down. It probably wouldn't have been an issue at all except that the two teams had to compete for school funding. The year before, the kendo team had managed to secure more funding from the school board because they'd done better at nationals. This was something that had been bothering Masaharu ever since, and he had been fighting hard this year to make sure that the basketball club won out this year. Because their teams were important … no matter what their captains were doing with each other in their private lives.

"Kana," Lavi warned, his voice raising ever so slightly. He only ever seemed to lose his cool when Kana was involved, he thought, not without a sense of irritation. What was it about Kana that made him unable to stay calm?

Kana, on the other hand, would not be forced into a corner. "Don't take that tone of voice with me. I can't believe you blew me off like that. If you couldn't come, you could've told me?"

"Like I said, something really important came up--"

"Oh, like hanging out with that girl, Rika, was so important?" Shit. Was he bluffing, or had he actually seen them? Lavi quickly ran through his potential reactions in his head -- none of them seemed like they would help, so he kept his mouth shut, breathing heavily. Kana pressed on, "One of these days you'll have to learn to say no." Lavi tried to protest, but Kana cut him off, albeit in a much softer, sadder tone: "You'll have to decide what's more important."

With a sigh, Chiaki listened as Natsume let out all his complaints about his brothers and how they were being mean to him and didn't love him enough. Chiaki had gotten somewhat used to this over the time he'd known the other boy -- how was it possible for someone to have a brother complex this insane, however, was something that he often wondered. On some level, he supposed that it was good that Natsume talked to him about it; it was a measure of how much trust he had in Chiaki. Lately, Natsume had been somewhat distant and it had been worrying.

"You know, your brothers will probably dislike you even more if you do that," he teased when Natsume made a suggestion about how he and his younger brothers could form a closer bond.

"But Chiakiiiii…"

"You know it's tr-- no wait, you're an idiot, so I guess you wouldn't."

"Calling me an idiot is way too harsh, Chiaki," Natsume complained, clinging annoyingly to Chiaki now. Yet somehow it didn't bother Chiaki as much anymore, and he wondered if maybe he was starting to like Natsume or something… The thought was too disgusting to bear.

1. Pick a character, pairing, or fandom you like.
2. Put iTunes or equivalent media player on random.
3. For each song that plays, write something related to the theme you picked inspired by the song. You have only the time frame of the song: no planning beforehand: you start when it starts, and no lingering afterward; once the song is over, you stop writing. (No fair skipping songs either; you have to take what comes by chance!)
4. Do 10 of these, then post.
