Maybe you're not in the area of Boston I went to a ton as a kid. I mean, you can't judge an entire city on one visit. I grew up 2 hours north and went there more times than I could ever count. It's an awesome city but the pace is MUCH faster than most cities and there are a ton of masshole drivers. So, it's not "B.S. Complete and total."
I've been to the North End, Boston Common, Chinatown, as far south as Jackson Square, Harvard Square, Davis, Cambridge. Granted I don't drive, so I don't have to deal with crappy drivers. But the walkers are still slow as hell.
the pace of a city is all subjective, honestly. When I was younger and much worse off as a driver, I thought chicago was a fast paced city. (and I'd assume for most people it is still, seeing how I know people who won't even travel in chicago proper) but to me, most cities just aren't what I expect when I think fast paced. in fact, I've noticed the cities with the faster pace rep also have the slow drivers and walkers. I guess I'm pretty fast paced for the midwest, but I just don't settle down easily
