Actually, one of the most interesting things about M-Theory is that "The Universe" was created by the collision of 2 hyper-dimensional membranes (what my people call "The Big Bang").

One small, and often overlooked, detail is that these branes are still moving around undetectable in hyperspace. If they collided once, they can do so again. At any time. Without warning, but with predictable results.

Think about it. In an instant, everything you see, everywhere, can suddenly be "Banged".
