The world you created sounds a bit similar to this world, what with actual events occurring that specifically did occur, and yet huge worldwide phenomena occurring as a result which did not. While I really like the premise, the crossover style of writing always seems to leave me feeling a bit confiscated. From what I read, i think you either need to define a concept of crossing dimensions where events occur on multiple planes together and then go their own ways again, or create very similar but not identical set of events to the actual earth events.
