Because the Iranian government controls all communications, and were expelling all foreign media, people in Iran were desperatly seeking ways to reach the outside world to try and get out images and messages of what was going on. the Tv and radio channels were being censored, and mobile communications were cut off completely, or impossible to use because they were being jammed and monitored
