This was acceptable, I reasoned, because superheroes were never seen with flaky lobster skin. I had my image to think of, after all.
So true. I love this little detail.

They receded before my very approach! The cowards!
I can so see a little kid thinking of the ocean this way. :D

I tumbled backwards and was immediately swept away with the water, turning over and over in the gritty tide with no sense of direction.
That feeling of the sand sucking out from under your feet, and what happens next if you go in too far... you never forget it, do you? This is why our kids were not allowed out above the knees, though my son would follow his taller sister out again and again. We had a very short day at the beach when he was two once, because he soaked every set of clothes we had.

I love this use of iamthesea's username for inspiration!

It's definitely an unforgettable sensation. Even thinking about it now, my feet are tingling! Staying at the knee-level is probably safest, and my mom certainly tried to invoke that rule after that point, but I was a little daredevil at times! Thanks for reading :D

This is excellent, and I too didn't remember ocean (gulf) water was salty the first time I got it in my mouth. Lots of fun here!
