I can so see a little kid thinking of the ocean this way. :D
I tumbled backwards and was immediately swept away with the water, turning over and over in the gritty tide with no sense of direction.
That feeling of the sand sucking out from under your feet, and what happens next if you go in too far... you never forget it, do you? This is why our kids were not allowed out above the knees, though my son would follow his taller sister out again and again. We had a very short day at the beach when he was two once, because he soaked every set of clothes we had.
