whew. That little morsel has generated a term in the HP fandom that has been around since the first movie - "The Bad Place." Now he's old enough that it isn't quite as creepy to go to "The Bad Place."

But can he act?

:P

I hadn't even heard all the buzz about this and my Mom knew all about his new play. I was all excited until I heard the plot of the new play. Now I'm a bit bummed by it.

Why bummed? It is a beautiful play, very difficult, but one of the best of the best. The scenes between the Dr. and the boy are some of most breathtaking dialogs I've ever read or seen.

My problem with the play is the argument that mental illness is a beautiful unique thing and that "curing" someone destroys something important. I don't have any affection for mental illness and find this idea preposterous.

Partly because of the nudity and sex, it made quite a splash in '73, but by now that is all pretty passe. The play has enjoyed a resurgence in popularity - the kids have produced it as an independent production at school, and it seems there is always another small production of it going in LA.

I hope this production is good, and that That Boy is actually an actor. It must be a terrifying prospect for an actor to face a career battling his early work as a cultural icon.

I CANNOT WAIT to see Order of the Phoenix. I'm listening to it AGAIN in the car while commuting.

Hmmm, Mom made it sound disturbing and as a horse lover...I just didn't want to think about it.

Maybe if he goes on the road with the show...

Were you not impressed with him in the HP movies?

How on earth am I going to be able to see these next movies without thinking of these pictures? He'll never be little Harry Potter to me.

How can he be naked in a live play then? I know this is the UK, but don't they have laws about child pornography too?

I am not sure, I wonder the same thing. But if you read about it in the newspaper from the uk it says right in his interview that he is only 17 still: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/arts/main.jhtml?xml=/arts/2007/02/26/btequus26.xml

The boy, I think the character's name is Alan, blinds six horses when he goes into an altered state after realizing the horses saw him having sex in the stable Part of his psychosis is that he is obsessed with Jesus, and it transfers to horses, making the God Equus. The horses are played by actors with metal frames for heads and tall stilt-like "shoes" for feet. Link to a production from 1977 http://www.lib.ndsu.nodak.edu/archives/exhibitions/donlarew/images/Equus.jpg

I didn't go see the play the kids did last year - I don't want to see my students naked. I don't know, just can't do it. I'm an old bat.

I think he is probably going to be an actor - it is hard to tell from the movies because he is so young. He has presence, he's sympathetic, he's got some good timing, etc. I hope he is, it would be horrible to be this famous and turn out not to be an actor.

I don't think the play is pornography.

No, but there are those out there who think all nudity is pornography no matter the medium or venue, and therefore no child under 18 can participate. But that's here in the states...
