Tell me what it's worth.

Well, hey there. I am so gonna start writing in this more. It's silly that I haven't.

So, friends who have read this live journal for the past five years know one thing about me: I love lists. And this year, I never posted my yearly top ten films. This is incredibly late, but I feel like I need to let someone know, so here goes ( Read more... )

1 zodiac
2 assassination of jesse james
3 diving bell
3.5 syndromes and a century
4 bourne
4.5 the alexander payne segment of that otherwise abysmal episodic paris movie
5 die hard
5.5 kurt cobain about a son
6 apatow trilogy
7 eastern promises
7.5 offside
8 before the devil
9 4 months
10 youth without youth

twbb and no country were both fairly massive letdowns, though visually twbb was pretty fucking spectacular but all and all they're both wafers in the company of (the enormously surprising) jesse james.

as ever
i probably forgot some and i haven't seen some.

oh and all the hal holbrook scenes in into the wild (otherwise stinky-- hirsch's first misstep)
and all the cate blanchett scenes in im not there (otherwise leaden and flatly uninteresting)

i love "killer of sheep." nice list, j.c. - and i'm not at all surprised i heard from you. "there will be blood," however, was clearly the best film of the year. that, i stand by.

KEVIN TAYLOR! I really have been wanting to say something to you about this, but kept thinking you'd get all Kevin Taylory on me if I did, so I kept my mouth shut. I'm glad you're keeping with the list tradition.

I loved no country for old men and juno. I haven't seen once or into the wild yet, but man, did I haaaaate atonement and before the devil knows you're dead. I liked there will be blood and knocked up, to some extent, but I can't believe that they made enough of an impact to land on your list.

But my favorite movie of the year was black snake moan, so what do I know?
