He isn't Hillary. Meaning, he's potentially electable, and can face Senator McCain without a lot of baggage (especially a pandaring husband). That isn't a really deep reason, but it seems to be a valid consideration.
He's remarkably eloquent. In the '04 elections - he kind of had his debutante party at the Democratic National Convention that year - he stood out as a voice of reason and sanity. Contrast this with President Bush. He's young, he has sex appeal, charm. He is fairly well balanced, as far as not being terrifyingly liberal. He argues frequently for working across party lines. He's, from what I have read, consistent with his view points and voting history. Of course, there's a possibility that that isn't true, since I am only reporting what I've read

Well considering that I have become increasingly conservative in the last few years, the chances are practically nil that I would ever vote for him. I just really hated that the race factor was the only reason I'd ever heard people say about why they like him, so I really appreciate your insight. I knew (or maybe strongly hoped?) that there had to be more to it than just his race.
That's so strange, as I haven't heard the race card played all that often. I know there are some people who've said we aren't ready for a black president, or that now is the perfect time for a black president, but that was also in the context of a couple of other potential candidates. In any case, it's still obscenely early to be talking about presidential primaries.
