For months it was the only way they communicated. Well, sure they said hello to each other in the hallways, greeted each other in class, and held some small conversations, but they never strayed past the topics of the weather, school work, and debuting. These notes, stuck in lockers, under desks, behind doors, were the ways they truly communicated. The words revealed dreams, fears, and feelings. Only they knew the significance of the little post-its they found and the happiness it gave them.
But Jason had been struggling lately. Constantly erasing over the one word he was scared to say. His hands wanting to write 'love' and his pencil writing 'like'. It frustrated him to no end, they couldn't even be called love notes. Just 'like' notes.
"I like you Miss Sushi"
He couldn't just write love in such a small sentence where it felt insincere, unexplained. He wanted to tell her every reason he loved her, using every word in his vocabulary if necessary. But there's only so much you can say on a small, pink, heart-shaped post-it.
