My uncle was schizophrenic and my family went through so much over the years with him. He finally managed to stay on his medications, after bouncing in and out of mental hospitals for years, but was unable to hold a job because he just couldn't function in the real world. He was living in a group home after my grandmother cared for him for years and years when he couldn't understand reality.
