Who knew that stripping a stand would be such a pain in the ass! Probably everyone else but me, that's who! One of the cast members donated a little phone stand to the theatre. The only problem was that it had been painted white. White isn't a good color to have on stage under the bright lights, so I decided to strip it and then refinish it. I should have just painted it brown. Hindsight is 20/20.

In another case of making more work for myself than I had to: I started stenciling some of the flats. It seems like in every show the flats are either all one color, or the bottom third is a dark color, the top is a lighter color, and it has been textured with sponges. So, I decided to do something different. I have been stenciling the top part of the wall to make it look like that old fashioned flocked wallpaper. I've gotten lots of complements so far, but it is a lot of work.

I am finally all done finding props. I have the prop table all set up, organized and taped. Next week is tech week, so I finally get to start working on scene changes.

One of the cast members pissed me off a little bit the other day. I had to make two corsages for the show. One of them is a nice normal one, the other one is big and kind of silly. The woman that is supposed to wear the silly one flat out refused to wear it. She insists that her character would never wear something like that because she has very good taste. I don't know what script she is reading, but her character is totally clueless. She may think she has good taste, but really she is kind of out there. The truth is that she, the actress, doesn't want to look silly.

We are doing a comedy. A VERY campy comedy. Everything needs to big and over the top. If you are an actor you have to be willing to do that. Your friends and family already know that it isn't something that you wouldn't wear (or say or do), in real life. And who cares what strangers think as long as you give a good performance?

Of course, I'm just a lowly prop person, what do I know? Except that the director agrees with me, I mean.

I'm going to go soak all of this paint stripping gunk off.
